Minneapolis, Minnesota's Urban Guerrillas' self-titled tape from an unknown date. From cassette tape source labeled "Camouflage Tapes #84."
A previously out-of-print cassette revealing a rougher sound, but no less catchy than any of their previous or future material. Most of this tape's compositions have not surfaced on other releases, save for "Wild Boy" and "Bliss," both of which appear on the 1983 Camouflage Records release "Darwin's Theory Of Pelvic Revolution," which is also available on Archive.org.
"A" Side:
1. Chinese Voodoo
2. Jonestown
3. Sudan
4. Dizzy*
"B" Side
1. Forgotten Eggs
2. Bliss
3. Becuz of You
4. On The Frontier
5. Wild Boy
6. Venus*
* Song has been faded tastefully to remedy abrupt music end at side-change.
These songs were recorded live to tape, often with one or two microphones, at the Urban Guerrillas practice space, thus the "rougher sound." The method of recording does not affect the quality of the music presented, however. It instead enhances the listening experience, transporting the listener to that practice space with these three guys banging out dance-rock.
Aside from the above mentioned fades, and general tidyness throughout, I have not applied any EQ or try to correct any audio blemishes such as tape hiss or other such surface anomalies. If you wish to try to remove the tape hiss, let me know, and I will supply you with an ample amount of hiss from all parts of this tape - for the casual listener, though, this should satisfy your listening needs.
A curious item, released on Camouflage Tapes (#84, as the cassette shell reads), with a cut-and-pasted copyright notice from a CBS Records release from 1979 on the inside flap of the tape jacket.
The cassette does not reflect a producer, as it was self-produced.
The inside jacket (available soon) lists the lyrics to "Becuz Of You" and the roster of musicians:
John [Hewitt] is the BEAT
LARRY [Sahagian] is the VOICE
DAVE [Loy] is Guitar
While a bass player is not mentioned, it has been confirmed that the bass is performed by Larry Sahagian.
Carefully transferred on high-end gear from an original tape - unknown amount of plays - unknown tape material. Hiss does exist on the source material, and the digital transfer has now revealed its limitations.
