a very strange little film.. good music,, very odd cameo by Smokey the bear who seems lost and wandering about in a daze without much to say except "thanks for the help."

art film!

Subject: Cute for its time.
Vaughn Monroe, the famous vocal singer, band leader, and then spokesman for RCA joins his family in a cute little film made for the 1957 viewers. Probably geared for children. Monroe sings one of his hits, "Ghost Riders In The Sky."
(also made popular by Burl Ives)

Subject: Time to ship Chris off somewhere..
I have no idea who this Vaughn Moore is, but thanks to the Prelinger Archive, I now have met his homely wife and his pretty daughter Candy, and his uh, somewhat effeminate son, Chris. As a matter of fact, ChrisÃÂs voice is so high in this film, I was like, whoa.
Oh! The film! ItÃÂs almost like a music video with a message! DonÃÂt cause fires in forests! Vaughn tells us the many ways to prevent fires, with his family conveniently there to give demonstrations on what to do. Vaughan contributes too, by showing the proper way to but out your cigarette, by grinding it into the ground with your foot.. Soon, Chris wanders off and uh, has visions of Smokey The Bear. Soon, Smokey comes to life and starts talking to him. THis is probably the most ridiculous moment in euphemeral film and is an Amelie moment for sure. Pretty funny. Highly Reccomended!

** Edit. Oops, Chris actually IS his daughter, ha ha, silly me.

As far as I know, this is the only video in which Vaughn's entire family appears. The story is corny but it's a nice testament to Vaughn's love of his family. Like more of Vaughn? Visit our web site at www.vaughnmonroesociety.org
