Will Wright answers questions explaining the Sims philosophy and design, from the SimCity 2000 Special Edition version of the game, accessible through it's "WillTV" interface.
Questions asked in the 4 parts are:
Future Sims - "What is your vision for the future of Sim games?" (Question: MPEG4, SMK, Answer: MPEG4, SMK)
"Sim" Philosophy - "What got you started designing Sim games?", "What to people get out of Sim games?" (Question: MPEG4, SMK, Answer: MPEG4, SMK)
Designing Sims - "How do you design Sim games?", "What technologies make Sims games seem alive?" (Question: MPEG4, SMK, Answer: MPEG4, SMK)
SimCity Design - "How did you design SimCity classic and SimCity 2000?" (Question: MPEG4, SMK, Answer: MPEG4, SMK)
The videos were made before the CD collection was released (and seemingly the final part made at a different time) so the projections do not always come to fruition (and, of course, Maxis got brought by EA in 1997). Answers include knowing the source of the original SimCity was from a island-blowing up game, and in the development he had more fun in the editor then in the final game itself. There are many other interesting thoughts too, centred on the Sim-games philosophy.
The files available are converted MPEG-4 versions playable by most media players, and the original .SMK files. See above or the segments list for download links for both.
