As a young man, Thomas F. Coram, Sr., learned from an aunt that his forefather, William Coram, had served throught the American Revolution as a personal bodyguard for General George Washington. Intrigued by this, he set out to learn as much as possible about William Coram. Over the course of more than forty years, his research carried him to many small county courthouses, Revolutionary War battlefields, ancient graveyards, and to both the National Archives and the Library of Congress. His research confirmed that his forefather served faithfully as a protector of General Washington for more than six years of the American Revolutionary War. His research also confirmed that after the War, William Coram moved to the state of Georgia, where he married and became a leader in the local Baptist church. Along the way he also documented a great deal of information on the descendants of this notable American patriot. This book contains a summary of his discoveries as he sought to learn more about William Coram, Jr., Patriot, and his descendants. A memorial website for William Coram has been established at
