Single-segment speed run on the GBA version of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past done on February 25 2005. Collects 100% of items according to SDA, such as heart pieces, bottles etc, but doesn't get compases, bomb/arrow upgrades and some other things that some could consider to be required for 100%.
Author's comments: The total play time for this run is 2:14:22, which as far as I know of is the World Record for this type of run.
This run is the end product of about 150 runs through the game spanning over about 7 months. I remember back in the day when I played this game on SNES, I could barely beat it, now I'm speed running through it in under 2 hours and 20 minutes. This run took a long time to accomplish, and I'm very proud of it.
First off, I'd like to give a big thanks to Radix and TSA. Radix, thanks for all of the help with the compression help and all of that, I know I may have gotten a little annoying, but thanks! TSA, thanks for your strategies in the Dark World. I never even thought about using a bomb to fly across the pit in the Tower of Hera. Also, a GIGANTIC thanks to Nintendo for making this game for the GBA and the original SNES version, without it being on the GBA, I doubt I would have ever even tried to do it.
Some people may be wondering why there's a different File Select screen and startup screen. That's because I did it on the GameBoy Advance version. There is only 1 change in the versions. The room before the room with the pit that goes into the boss room (room, lol) is completely revamped. Normally, you can either push a block onto the switch, and it will open the door, or you can use the Cane to make a block. This time, You have to go into a room next to that room (room, lol), and then you have to hit a color switch, circle around most of the dungeon, and then go back to a room where you have to lift a block, then fall down, go into another room, and then go into the boss room. It actually adds more time to the run since it takes longer than the SNES version.
As far as the run goes, I thought it went pretty well. I had some trouble in the Tower of Hera with aligning myself with the edge of the pit going to the Big Chest, perfect Moldorm though, which is very VERY rare for me. Also, two heart pieces gave me a little bit of trouble. The digging game mostly, had to play that about 5 times to finally get the piece. Also, the Treasure Chest game, second try, not bad, but it's not as good as the first. Also, the Mothula battle didn't go as well as I had anticipated. I can usually kill him in 2 hits by only charging my sword once and letting it fly, very effective and quick. But I only hit him once with the charge and had to hit him twice regularly, not too bad.
A funny little side note: When I was doing another run, which was the one that I was going to submit. I had a brown out while I was in the middle of buying the Big Bomb, so I only had about 25 minutes left in the game. Sure enough, my computer shut down right in the middle of the capture, but my GameCube didn't shut off. I went to where I was saving the video to, and it said that the size was 19.5gb, which was what it should've been. Radix told me to open it with Virtual Dub, I did so, and it started reconstructing the video. I thought I was safe, but the video got corrupted. It stopped when I was in the East Palace, and then cut to Turtle Rock. Skipped like an entire hour and a half. So I had to redo the run, but it came out for the better, since I did this run quicker than that one.
While this isn't my best run ever (I believe my best ever was somewhere around 2:07:Xx), I'm satisfied until someone challenges it. I'm taking a break from LTTP for a little while, but I'm definatly going to improve the run sometime in the near future, no worries!
