Into The Mystic
It was with great anticipation that we went Into The Mystic for the 5th night of 6 shows on ALO's California Tour d'Amour II. The boys delivered yet another consistent and passionate night of oldies, strong tunes from "Roses & Clover," and solid choices of covers.
Props out to the ALO Sound crew for finding the sweet spot in the Mystic and to Monkey Tunes for beautifully capturing this performance for us all to enjoy. One of the best recordings from this venue on the archive from any band. 5 Stars for all and thanks to the band for supporting Music in Schools with the raffle!
"Maria" draws you in from Zach's first key notes and the swanky "Roses & Clover" provide some spirited leads from Lebo & guarantee right out of the shoot that this is going to be a darling of an evening. I adore the "Blackbird" verses Zach tosses in too. "Ophelia" was heavenly with Aaron Redner from Hot Buttered Rum on Fiddle. Tight interplay from Lebo & Aaron in the second half of it and Aaron's smile and playing lit up the crowd. Silky transition jam from "The Gardener" into a vocally perfect rendition of the Pointer Sisters "Yes We Can, Can." After some feedback during the song, Zach ad libs singing "a little feedback won't get us down," much to the crowd's delight.
2nd Set launches with a hot "Brother Be Strong" > "Country Camper," and one of the longest versions of "Kolomana," ever, clocking in at 21 minutes. If you like this tune and the way they jam on it, this version will rock your world. Zach's "Petluma Rap" was fun for us locals... Smootie lays it down on a power punched "Lady Loop," and although the end of the show and encores were rushed, it was right of the band to respect the curfew. No telling where this show would have gone with 30 more minutes, but get this one, it is HOT!
