Saz and mandola improvisations recorded with Stef in All Saints' Church, Alton Priors (near Avebury) in Wiltshire, the day after summer solstice 2007. Also some extra jams recorded the next day in a nearby grove of ancient beech trees.
Notes
Stef - mandola (2-12), shaky egg, foot-stomping (1) Matthew - saz This is my favourite church in England. There's a huge sarsen stone (megalith) under the floor (there's even a trapdoor you can lift up to see it) and a wonderfully vibrant 1700-year old yew tree right beside it. From one of the church windows you can see Adam's Grave and Knapp Hill. A stonesthrow away is a 'laughing spring' (one with bubbles!). "The Midsummer Cushion" is a tune which Matthew made up on nearby Knapp Hill exactly a year earlier. The rest are improvisations. The last two tracks were recorded the next day under the beech trees. After that, I headed off down The Ridgeway, making further solo saz recordings at various sites. |
