* - while this was mentioned in the accompanying lineage, the CD-R I received only had a single track.
LOCATION: House front/center, about eight feet back from stage.
TAPER: Crashingbeat
TRACKER / TORRENTER: ZaPenguin
SOUND QUALITY: A+ recording of an A- venue. Airy, largely-unmic'd drums, and sorta indistinct vocals, but the recording itself is fantastic.
THE BAND:
Tsuyama Atsushi: monster bass, voice, cosmic joker
Higashi Hiroshi: synth, guitar, voice, dancin'king
Shimura Koji: drums, latino cool
Kawabata Makoto: guitar, voice, speed guru
TRACK LIST:

01. Intro jam > Douchebag [11:24]
02. tuning [0:24]
03. Dark Stars in the Dazzling Sky [17:24]
04. tuning [0:22]
05. unknown song [4:29]
06. Pink Lady Lemonade [1:30]
Note: Pink Lady Lemonade cuts out.
ULTRA-MINI BIO:
"Acid Mothers Temple & the Melting Paraiso U.F.O. (and subsequent offshoots) is a Japanese psychedelic band founded in 1995 by members of the Acid Mothers Temple soul-collective. The band is led by guitarist Kawabata Makoto and early in their career featured many musicians but by 2004 the line-up had coalesced with 4 core members and frequent vocal guests.
The band have a reputation for phenomenal live shows, and releasing frequent albums on a number of international record labels, as well as the Acid Mothers Temple family record label which was established in 1998 to document the activities of the whole collective."

SHOW NOTES:
Sheesh! You torrent four Acid Mothers Temple shows back to back, and all of a sudden you find you just can't stop. Big (huge) thanks to Mr. Crashingbeat for getting this recording made and mailed.
The only venue in San Diego I've had the pleasure of being at is the perhaps-well-known Victor's on the Bay. Victor's on the Bay is, by my best estimate, approximately nothing at all like the Che Cafe, save for the booking of live acts and location in the proximity of San Diego, a city famed for charging padres and nuclear dolphins. So, in lieu of an account of the venue, allow me to recount the time when, after driving in the direction of Texas after a show at the aforementioned Victor's on the Bay, I suffered a blowout while travelling roughly 90 miles per hour. While I cannot prove this to be the fault of San Diego, my mind is open and I am willing to try my best.
The recording itself is, as mentioned above, an A+ recording of an A- venue, with one very, VERY frustrating flaw. Because M-Audio can't design a product to save their fucking lives, this recording cuts out ninety seconds into Pink Lady Lemonade. It's a triple shame since - in addition to being a flaw to begin with, and in addition to being a flaw that robs the listener of his well-deserved Pink Lady - this would have been a very interesting Pink Lady to hear, being one of the few played before that epic night in Austin where the "Krautrock Riff" was born (according to Kawabata himself). Until and unless a recording from the early part of this tour surfaces (oh PLEASE, Santa, PLEASE!), it's hard to say for sure exactly what was being done with Pink Lady - but my best guess is that it was structured similar to the 07 outing, with the "EchoPlex" guitar second half, and perhaps even the wonderful Tsuyama babblings and laughter heard in recordings of the U.S. 07 leg.
Anyway, lack of pink women aside, this recording is still worth a listen. The intro improv > Douchebag section is much more well-defined than it would be by Chapel Hill - some might even call it "tentative", but whatever. Dark Star is fucking Dark Star, and kicks ass. We don't get a La Novia (or La Le Lo, for that matter) but we DO get something that was horribly lacking in the shows I recorded: Tsuyama Deviations! I'm guessing that they book-end a composed song, but the name of that song is a mystery to me. Whatever - it's four minutes of very entertaining, inane rantings with a goofy, creamy rock-n-roll filling.
So, hey - it's incomplete, it's early in the tour, it's missing most of Pink Lady, but it sounds so nice that what the fuck.
RECORDING NOTES:
Besides the sudden cut at 1:30 of Pink Lady Lemonade, there's nothing distracting going on that warrants a mention. Kudos to Crashingbeat for an admirable job.
REQUESTS & REMINDERS:
Do not sell this recording. Do not buy this recording. Do not sell this recording, then buy it from yourself. For one hundred US dollars above the price of a M-Audio Microsuck, you can purchase a beautiful, sexy Roland Edirol R-09, which will not only impress members of the opposite gender, but - more importantly - won't let you down in the middle of a damn awesome concert. Choose wisely, choose early, and choose often.
