Subject: Comments on hall
For those who know the venue, it is a tough hall. In a basement bar. Low ceilings....
I think I did the best I could given the location, using the mic mounts they have set up for us in the middle on the ceiling. I understand many of you are disappointed, but given the dearth of music on the archive for these guys and how hard it was for me to get it up here (took me over 6 months of back and forth through their "approval" process before I could post it), I think we should be happy to have some recordings of them.

Thanx Eytan. Decent enough recording. The music really elevates. I am playing Big Man and Sister on my radio show this week. Peace

Subject: Pretty okay
The sound is a little hit and miss at times but they band has lots of energy and sound pretty good, even through the less than stellar recording.

Need a soundboard from these guys to truly get that feeling. This recording is o.k., if you're hard up, but doesn't represent the concussiveness of the bass nor the richness of the horns. Too bad, cuz all of these guys can play incredibly well. Some of the bandmembers are also in Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, also from NYC. I highly recommend you check out their album too. Antibalas needs to post up a show from the Big Apple, since that's where they're based and where you'd hear the entire FULL BAND. How about it?

If you guys are into this, with the poor sound quality and bad balance, you would love their studio stuff. I fell in love with their studio albums; the archive shows are secondary for me. Look for their albums at borders or amazon.com

Subject: Great band, good sound
Love this band. The set is top notch. Funky, energetic and tight. The sound quality is excellent. It sounds like a small venue, and that adds to the intimate feel.

First off - glad to see a politcally righteous band! Good show. Like it - even w/ the "talkers"

Amen to the following reviews. I'm giving it a five, despite the crowd noise, as the miking is about the best you can expect from a live show in this type of venue.

Subject: these guys are great
This show gets 4 stars for sound, five for performance. It seems that with a group this size it is really difficult to get a crispy recording. At any rate, this show sounds FAR better than the Bonnaroo 2003 show. There is much Bush-bashing during the performance (check the date....), but, sadly, no Indictment, which is one of the best political songs to come out in years. Overall, this is a good representation of how Atibalas can heat a crowd up into a frenzy. Check it out.

Subject: good show
The sound is good given the fact that it's in a small venue. "Elephant" on CD1 stands out with good distribution of instruments and crowd noise. Smooth jams wrap up CD1. Disk two is a marathon. Overall, this show is great for any collection.
