Subject: Interesting mixture of themes
Was the "toyshop/bookstore formula" already done to death when this film was made? Anyway, that's one theme-- in a somewhat shameless bit of self-promotion, the new Betty Boop doll arrives by very special delivery to a toy shop, where she is instantly crowned queen by the other toys. Being that this is a BB 'toon, it's all just another setting for some dance routines and for Betty to sing a musical number.

Things get more interesting, though, when the post-coronation celebrations set off a rag doll gorilla, to which Betty gets to play Fae Wray (the original 'King Kong' was also released in 1933-- it would be interesting to know whether that preceded this 'toon). In a parody of the old "damsel in distress" ('Perils of Pauline', etc.) serials, "Kong" ties Betty to a sawmill conveyor belt (but he doesn't demand her hand in marriage). The toyshop soldiers then mobilize to effect her rescue (but "Kong" doesn't say "Curses! Foiled again!"). While some BB 'toons are obvious spoofs and satires (like 'She Wronged Him Right' spoofs live theater), it is not as obvious whether some of the others are meant to satirize their subjects.

Poor Betty. The poor girl has so many clothing issues!

At the end Betty is marching backward toward the camera. The back of her dress is torn off revealing her bra and panties.

However, at the start of the scene, we see her in profile and her dress is fine. When did it get torn? For that matter, since the back of her dress never came above her waist in the first place, when did she get the bra?

I'd give it an "average" because--wardrobe malfunctions aside--it follows the toyshop/bookstore formula so many others have used.

Nice touches....not as politically incorrect as other betties...but still very watchable. Good fun. Three and half stars

Subject: Not the only dirt!!!
He also revealed walking in on uglygeorge and his guypal Rush L. (we have to protect the guilty) rolling around in an Oxycotin and booze has wishing Richard N. was there to stroke their egos. But enough of that. This is a great example of what animation can be without the help of computers. Pure art!!!
