Subject: November 17, 2004 - Bob show review
SUMMARY: Two great hours including some political commentary, a cover of a classic 1970s drug song, and some long-awaited Who covers.
DETAILS: It was a nice surprise when Bob and the guys offered a jazzed-up version of Trailer Park Blues. The song has progressed from Bob playing it solo, to Bob and Jeff playing it last weekend at Borders, to Bob, Jeff, and Norm playing it together. Personally, I still like the original solo version the best because it seems more folksy and quirky. However, I appreciated the new treatment and if it means well get to hear the song on a regular basis, so be it. I think Bob took Information through this same progression playing it as a solo first then integrating it into the regular Wednesday-night setlist.
Speaking of solos, Bob performed a powerful set tonight. He began with Bob Dylans Masters of War. He played this in response to the Secret Service being called to Boulder, Colorado, to investigate threats against the president because some high school students wanted to play this song at a talent show.
Bobs second solo song was equally as powerful, one hell sing at a cousins funeral Thursday morning. As best as I can tell, it might have been called At The End Of The Road. A beautiful and very moving song.
However, I thought the guys saved their best for last. From the I wish I had requested that! column, the guys played the Brewer and Shipley classic, One Toke Over The Line. Its funny because I listened to the The Rainmakers (with special guests, Brewer and Shipley) version from Hempilation, Volume 2: Free The Weed just last week. Highly recommended (pun intended)!
Then, Bob went into Pete Townshend mode and started playing The Whos Pinball Wizard. It went on for a verse or two before it ended abruptly in what the guys refer to as a train wreck. Apparently, Bob was still trying to get his Who groove going because he then launched into Baba ORiley. Yes, the guys really rocked their way through this one. As a guy who owns more than 20 Who albums and has never got around to requesting any thank you, thank you, thank you! Bob even ended the song and the show in Pete Townshend fashion and pretended like he was going to smash his guitar.
Last but certainly not least, the first Bob Store apparel made its debut at Molloys tonight. Its good quality stuff and Ill be placing my own order soon. Thanks again to Mark and Stian for all of their hard work on this. Buy early and buy often!
