Subject: David Park Barnitz actual author
The Internet Archive has performed an invaluable service by making this rare work of decadent poetry available on the internet. One important point, however: although published anonymously, the book was actually written by a young Orientalist scholar from Harvard named David Park Barnitz, and not Judith Gautier, who lived some decades earlier.

More information on the short, tragic, and cynical life of Park Barnitz can be found in the recent reissue of _The Book of Jade_ by Durtro Press, in my 1996 essay on Park Barnitz in _Studies in Weird Fiction_, and on the website www.BookofJade.com, which is still under construction.
