Subject: One of my favorite musical experiences
It's amazing to me that this night was over a decade ago. I remember it incredibly (shockingly) clearly. A car full of us drove up from Lexington for a show at "Casa del Mason" as advertised on the website or wherever we heard about it. When we arrived at the address in Radford, we pulled up to an old house which we had determined by then was "Mason's house." Party on! As long as the neighbors are cool, because it was right in the middle of a neighborhood and right next to the neighbors.
I think it may have been one of the Toms that took my ten bucks at the door, but I don't remember exactly. I do remember that whoever it was slapped "VIP" wristband on me (and everyone else in the house), pointed us to the kitchen and told us the keg and the whiskey were free till they were gone but there was a store nearby for after that too. The porch of the house (with a couple of 40s if I remember right) became our personal VIP lounge for the night.
The next three sets were honestly a highlight of my long and diverse musical experiences. The band was set up in the living room of the house, facing each other in what looked more like band practice than a show. The soundboard was also in that room tucked into a corner, but everyone else -- the audience-- was in the adjoining rooms looking in. You had to migrate through the kitchen to get around to the other side. But having the band all locked in that room, everyone else looking on, was really unlike anything I had ever seen up to that point, and in some ways, unlike anything I've seen since. There was no pressure, no way for the boys to do anything but look at each and focus on laying down the music in that room. And it worked! It was just the best house party I've ever been to.
I saw BP, I don't know, a couple dozen times after that, and have since see countless nights of music all across the country. But I'll never forget that night.
I'll let the music speak for itself. But since I stumbled across this show again and there wasn't a review explaining the context of this particular night in Virginia, I felt compelled to set the stage for those who enjoy that kind of thing. And since there don't seem to be too many more BP shows happening these days, I'll leave my thanks to the band here too. Thanks for the memories boys - see you somewhere!

There is absolutely no reason that this show shouldn't already have a 5 star review. Hell... it should already have TEN 5 star reviews. This second set is as good as it gets for pre-boat '03 BPers. Fucking disgusting. The 1st and 3rd sets certainly don't slouch, either.
Big props to Madigan for making the best out of the awkward sound situation.
