Notes
* = w/Eric Schenkman on guitar
Note:
** 1st 38 seconds of 1st song (track #2) was completely distorted (somehow the 20db mic pad switch had gotten turned off). I have excised this music from the track, so the pre-show crowd is there and the 1st song will start abruptly 38 seconds in, and then it takes about 30 seconds afterwards to get the levels evened out, so expect a little volume jumpiness at the beginning. **

Taper notes:
Well my New Orleans Jazzfest appreciation series turned out to be quite a little diversion for a while in the BARN series, taking up 19 consecutive releases. :-) Now it's time to get back to some other more varied releases for BARN57. Getting back to my Jamband roots, I present up this OLD Blues Traveler show. It was recorded right around the release time of "Save His Soul" which may not exactly be one of their classics, but it featuring songs I'd long forgotten about, like "Whoops" and "Believe Me". This show is particularly notable for the really new (at the time) "Spinning Spiraling Machine" with Eric Schenkman from the Spin Doctors guesting on guitar, an always welcome "Should I Stay Or Should I Go?", and some really great stuff in the 2nd set with "Crystal Flame", a beautiful "100 Years" -> "Sweet Pain" segue, and a very high energy "Crash Burn" and "Brother John" pairing.
Now the bad news. It was recorded in a college gym. And this gym, as anyone who has ever been inside is an echo chamber. This was also before I had the more serious mics that I now own (though I'm not sure anything could have helped record the sound in this room any better). I have done my best at cleaning up the sound as much as possible using some pretty heavy EQ to bring out some bass (as there was barely any audible), crispen up the highest highs and reduce the room reverb and midrange muddiness. I hope it helps. Still, it may be the worst sounding recording in my BARN series yet.
There is another recording of the 1st set ONLY on archive.org (sourced from a cassette), so this might be a perfect opportuninty for some enterprising person to make a nice matrix of the 2 (since mine is from a DAT source, it can be used for speed correction on the cassette). Until/unless the second set of the soundboard recording shows up, this seems like it will be the only source for this music....
