Subject: Well worth the wait
Thi is the Keaton film, I've been waiting for ages to see. I'm hesitatingly putting it into my favourite Keaton Movies alongside "The General"
"Sherlock Jr" "The three ages" and "Steamboat Bill jr" I say "hesitatingly" because the comedy does slacken in the latter half. But there is plently of funny stuff, my favourite bit probably being Buster's first entrance into the swimming pool.
Yes, the print wasn't great. but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the movie.

Subject: Great film, bad copy:
Ah, a lovely film. If you're getting this, you know the comedy masterpiece it is.
The actual archive.org file:
Well, it's a MGM-edition 67 minute print, in okay shape. I think it's the definitive copy. Alas, it looks to come off analog video, as there's fringing and color issues at the edges. Also, the video is MPEG 1 not MPEG 4. Yes, 352x240 instead of DVD-type 720x480. That's VHS-equiv resolution. MPEG 1 also leaves lots of artifacts in motion scenes. The encode is bad, too, and jerks or drops frames. Be warned; this isn't quite a substitute for the real DVD.
I knock it down a star because it is better than Youtube quality, but still heavily artifacted.

Subject: My Favorite Buster Keaton Film
This is such a sweet film. Though not filled with his most spectacular stunts, it nevertheless contains some good falls, and the scene with the camera in the tickertape is hilarious. And his fall when he's walking with Sally is perfect. The soundtrack is also very good, and the print is good enough. Someday, let us hope, these films will be fully restored.
Anyway, I love this film, and it's absolutely wonderful. It would be a good date film, if you're into that kind of thing.
