Holograph, signed
Title devised by cataloger
On top of the manuscript, the annotation states, "Copy, A.A. Phelps to S.J. May, Oct. 17, 1837."
The manuscript is stamped, "PHELPS, MSS."
A.A. Phelps replies to Samuel J. Maýs letters about Bridgewater. He then comments on the connection between the Liberator and the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery society, a topic May mentioned in his letter. Phelps says that no such connection should be continued given the kind of editor Garrison is, and that this is the position share by the Board of Managers of the society. He then talks about sectarianism among the abolitionists and Garrisońs aggressive approach
