Subject: Highly sympathetic to Native American history
Subject: Highly sympathetic to Native American history
The viewpoint of the author is quite sympathetic to the history of the Native American nations. The details are good and believable. Stories are excellent.
The parents of the author traveled from Massachusetts to the eastern shores of the mighty Mississippi as missionaries to the Choctaw so the author had a first-hand view. Yet, writing is somewhat dated. Like he discusses Christopher Columbus they way we used to think of him as the first explorer. Written around 1900, the writing different. Yet, it is a highly valuable work. Even though the organization is somewhat lacking. At the end is a list of Native American words including the origin of names of many towns.
