First off, really lovely recording from Jon Hatgis. Clear and balanced with not too much crowd noise.
The Mulberry's is pretty monstrous with two big distinct jams. It's laid back while being progressive and intricate.
This period is where they start doing the DJ switch segues that continue for much of 2003. Pretty cool they were still trying different improv techniques well into their careers. So I get where the first reviewer has some negative things to say because they don't always nail the switch.
The Shem-rah>etc segment is the real meat of the show. Inspired, moving and dynamic playing throughout. You should check it out right now.

I just finished that first set and freaking loved it.
Loved the jazzy e-drum infused Mulberry's Dream, the Hope with dancehall flourishes and AC2B teases, the crowd pops as they dick around with Sound 1 for a minute, and then i ADORE the way they drag out the Sound 1 composition a little in the beginning and then a lot towards the end.. (P)reminds me of the Tractorbeam Songs of Joy and the way they just barely change something every time through, and after a few minutes of tiny changes it's something totally different. In this case, it's a gigantic Basis fakeout. The drop into MEMPHIS is a disaster- kinda like every ->MEMPHIS they've done on every spring tour ever it seems like. MEMPHIS takes awhile to find itself, but Barber sounds absolutely glorious over it around 9 minutes in and onwards. Great off-kilter jamming and Floyd-y blues stuff towards the end of the 1st half of Svenghali also.
I dig the -> Magellan out of Shem-Rah, the untzy part of Shem not so much, but it has its charms. The post-middle part of Magellan and into Plan B is neat, but I agree the first half of the jam is weak. God they sound confused about if Barber really wants to finish Plan B or not. It's such a cool idea though. Kinda like the Mishawaka Floes / Magellan, but with only Barber seeming to know exactly what's going on.
I like meandering. This show has some good meandering and some not so good meandering. I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5. I'll give it a 3 though because entirely too many fucking shows have 5 star ratings on here..and i'm definitely at least 5% to blame for those.

Subject: Three Stars, But Some Highlights Worth Listening To
Of the 2003 shows I've listened to thus far, this one probably has the worst sound quality, but it's still far from bad. The sound quality I'd give like a 3/5, though the sound can get a little muddy/bass heavy at times.
The music, on the other hand, is easily the worst 2003 show I've listened to thus far.
Mulberry's Dream, Hope > Sound 1 > M.E.M.P.H.I.S. > 42, Svenghali. This entire segment is not worth listening to. The jams are very bland, boring, and they go nowhere. Mulberry's Dream sounds like a college jamband at times. There were moments when M.E.M.P.H.I.S. and Svenghali seemed like they might go somewhere, but they never did.
Mariel Bop Bop > Svenghali is where the show finally gets going, and jam into the Svenghali ending is very, very decent. It reminds me in some strange way of the wild west in the future in outer space. Really cool stuff, cool themes.
Shem-Rah Boo is very dark, and Magner busts out the Gates of Hell in the jam. Pretty good, especially considering how bland their four-on-the-floor jams could get in this time period. However, the jam in Magellan goes virtually nowhere.
Plan B is solid, the jam is pretty good, and they tried a really cool concept. The final part of the Plan B track is Barber hitting the Plan B "peak riff," and then after the final note he rings out a little bit, only to go straight into the Magellan peak riff. He flubs a little bit, but the concept is cool enough that it warrants a listen.
The jam out of Magellan into Shimmy is psychedelic, and is a good melt into the beginning of Shimmy.
Shimmy has a fantastic jam in it, and they end it really well.
Resurrection is not a good song to me if it has no jam.
Pick up this show for the Mariel Bop Bop > Svenghali, and Magellan > Shimmy. The rest of it (with a couple exceptions) is fairly boring, meandering Biscuits.
