Subject: Pretty Boring.
Subject: Pretty Boring.
Sound quality is above average. About standard for this period.
Hope - Standalone.
Crickets > Voices - Both the 1st and 2nd jams I found to be pretty generic. There were a couple cool themes Barber hit upon in the 2nd jam but nothing ever materialized from them. The jam out of Crickets into Voices, though very short, is beautiful. Voices was standalone.
In The Sky > Floodlights > HAB - The jam out of Floodlights did nothing for me, and doesn't really go anywhere. Furthermore, Barber starts making it pretty clear the HAB drop is coming about 2 minutes too soon. The jam in HAB is pretty straightforward (and short) as far as HAB jams go, but it's pleasant.
Spaga - Finally, they get a decent jam! The jam in Spaga is a breakbeat jam, but it sounds very spacial. Magner's layering here is fantastic, and Sammy is on point. Barber is playing around with a few different themes, and Brownstein does a good job of quarterbacking everything. This isn't anything you've never heard from them before, but it's a solid jam.
Camera B - There's actually a really good downtempo jam in this version of Camera B. I don't know that I've ever heard a Camera B before with a real jam in it, but I may be misremembering. Either way, this is surprisingly good.
Lai > Floes - The Lai jam starts out as a pretty laid back jam, but it works very well. However, after a while, they get into a very disconnected jam, which can work for them sometimes, but this is not one of those cases. It gets pretty boring for a while. The Floes jam on the other hand is very pretty and sounds just like a Floes jam should. Very psychedelic rock sounding, and lots of tom-work from Sammy. This jam turns out really really good.
Rock Candy - Psychedelic, patient, and they manage to do some interesting stuff with an untz jam for a while. Really cool jam.
Overall, below average show. Floes and Rock Candy are the only real highlights, and there's a lot of filler here. Floes is very good.
