The truly odd wandering of minor themes are hilarious. It’s like a theme songs for video games. I wish the richly textured music was not limited to electronically produced notes though. Lyrics that ramble like the music, along with recorded, looped and distorted sounds would give more room for expression and subtle nuances.
I would love to hear narrative about topics that no one has ever thought worthy of immortalizing in song; strange things that make you wonder if the singer wasn't just making it up on the fly.
The title is totally wrong. It will bring listeners with different expectations and interests. "Cops Kill" and "Police State" are extremely dark, pessimistic phrases so common in dystopia media. This music is weirdly funny, manic and over-the-top Mario Brothers pop-culture cute (meant in the best way possible). If you think you're getting inner-city anti-police-violence music I can’t imagine a favorable response. Worse yet, "Basketball Playing Creatures" could be considered racially offensive. I don't think it's meant that way, but you could see how unsettling this in connection with light-heartedness and cops shooting could be taken the wrong way. The title of anything is the first impression and sets the rules for interpretation.
Overall, I like this.
(Wish I could give this 3.5 stars.)
