Subject: Adventures in America around 1890s
Subject: Adventures in America around 1890s
A german student drops out of college and to save his family the embarrassment is sent off to America.
The book is a first person narrative of his arrival
in New York and subsequent travel
to Texas, St Louis and San Francisco. He makes his way with hobos freeloading on trains,by taking odd jobs where he can find them, washing dishes, as farm hand and eventually as a reporter. Looking for more adventure
he joins the US Army as part of the Signal Corps and is
witness to the Spanish American war in Santiago de Cuba. While written in a factual manner it is an adventure story par excellence.
p.s( also look for his pen name Erwin Rosen :"In the French Foreign Legion)
