The first issue of the present ed. was dated 1559; see Mortimer
T.p. has architectural scrollwork border with a representation of Diana at the top, and the crescents and interlaced monograms of Henri II and Diane de Poitiers. It is attributed by Baudrier to Pierre Eskrich; see Mortimer. The ten leaves of plates include four folded, double-page ill. The folded map on the verso of d1 (paged "25" on the recto) is a bird's-eye view of the city. In-text ill., some full page. Ill. and t.p. border have been associated with Hugues Sambin, but there is no evidence for his connection with Lyons printers before 1572; see Mortimer. Headpieces, ornamented initials

Binding: 17th-century calfskin. Rebacked, retaining gold-tooled backstrip including brief title. Stamped in gilt at center of both boards are the arms of Pierre de Girardin (1644-1689); see Olivier. Edges of boards tooled in gilt. Page edges sprinkled red
