Subject: It's not ideal, but it's how I feel
A good setlist of old and new Dear Leader - and their longest show to date. The band is in top form and there's a certain raw ferocity to a lot of the songs. Stand outs include Vigorous Cravings & My Life as a Wrestler.
The sound quality is above average for an audience recording - especially with the size of The Paradise. On most songs the bass and drums are very clear. Aaron's vocals are WAY too soft though. Will (lead guitar) is almost impossibe to hear on this recoding. Not sure if it was the house mix, his amp, or the mic location of recorder. Aaron's guitar is always drowning him out and his leads are almost never heard.
Despite the ability to clearly hear defintion and difference between drums, guitar & bass - there is a lot of mid range and a certain muffled quality that happens when loudness occurs in any song. While it's one of Bill's better recordings, it's very poor compared to the brilliance of his TT's 5/8/04 sound quality - but admittedly a smaller venue which is easier to get a good sound.
And I have to say that while it's interesting to hear Automatic Buffalo done by Dear Leader, with Jon & Paul bringing their own spin to the table, I feel it's blasphemous. One hopes that songs by The Sheila Divine are best left to rest in peace.
