Subject: Democracy Now! -- another good episode
Democracy Now! is always a worthwhile show, the audio or video version. This one was good enough that I downloaded it to show someone else.

Very good interview with Vandana Shiva, about 'outsourcing' pollution to the third world, thus using the poor as not only the dumping ground for toxics, but also using the poor as the waste product of industry. She also speaks about a "convergence of death" caused by arms manufacturers getting into agriculture, chemical fertilizers and pesticides, seeds, pharmaceuticals and medicine.

Vandana appears with three other attendees of The International Forum on Globalization and Institute for Policy Studies (which is hosting a three day teach-in this weekend titled "Confronting the Global Triple Crisis: Climate Change, Peak Oil (The End of Cheap Energy) and Global Resource Depletion & Extinction.)

Each speaker is interesting.

Juan Gonzales reports: A new study from the nation's preeminent scientific advisory group has revealed that less than 2% of the money spent by the federal government on climate change research is used to study how climate change will affect humans.

According to the report issued by the National Academies, the U.S. Climate Change Research Program spends just $30 million a year on examining the impact of global warming on humans. To put that figure in perspective, the United States is spending an estimated $275 million per day on the Iraq war and occupation.

Also an exclusive:
EXCLUSIVE: In One Of His Last Interviews Before His Death Iraqi Tribal Leader Abu Risha Details Relationship With U.S. Military -- in Amman Jordan in one his last taped interviews. We broadcast never-before-seen excerpts and interview with filmmaker Rick Rowley, just back from Iraq.

Sheikh Abdul Sattar Abu Risha, was killed in a car bombing on Thursday in Ramadi.

His death is considered a major setback for U.S. forces in Anbar.
