Holograph, signed
This letter appears to be written in two parts: the first two paragraphs are addressed to "Mr. Newcomb"; the third paragraph is headed "Dear Sir," with corrections and deletions throughout the remainder of the letter
Caroline Weston states that the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society resolved to circulate petitions for the abolition of slavery in the District of Columbia among the women of every town in Massachusetts. Caroline has sent petitions to nearly all the towns in Franklin County, but knows no lady in the town of Leyden. Caroline is sending letters which Mr. Newcomb offered to forward, and discuses alternative methods of sending the signed petitions to Washington. She thanks Mr. Newcomb for his great help in carrying out a difficult task
See Call No. Ms.A.9.2 v.8, p.42, for another draft of a letter perhaps to Stillman B. Newcomb
