Subject: Awesome show
This show is flat out awesome. Derek is on top of his game. Recommended for sure. Sound is great and I really enjoy the Allman Bros feel with a twist. The flute that appears in a couple of songs is pretty sick. That guy can flat play, hot damn. Spooks is Master.

Subject: was a good show
this was a great show except for the annoying people constantly jabbering throughout.

Subject: Lamont Sydnor
Lamont Sydnor (formally of the Mike Corrado Band) is who is the badass on the congas if anyone is curious. Yeah, that's right... he's my buddy.

This was a heckuva show in a jam-packed former movie house that has had the seats removed. The soundboard area (where the tapers congregated) was well above floor level, which helped cut down on the crowd noise in the recording a bit (all the beer bottles being tossed into the garbage cans was tiresome, though).

This leg of the DTB tour began in Knoxville on Thursday night, continued over to Asheville on Friday, then rolled into Raleigh on Saturday, the 18th. Derek and the guys didn't take the stage 'til nearly midnight and kicked it 'til about 1:45 a.m. I have around 200 DTB boots in my collection, so I keep up with what the band is doing, but this show featured two songs I hadn't heard before: "Leavin' Trunk", which has a Bo Diddley kind of beat, and "Tune In 5", which features some Derek and Todd harmonizing on guitar and bass, respectively, early in the song. Then the refrain comes and Kofi cranks the volume up to about 11 on the B-3 and you'd swear you'd been transported back into the early '70s with the original Santana - awesome! The guest on congas (his name is Lamar or Lamont; it wasn't clear when Yonrico pronounced, and I can't even begin to guess at his last name) put on quite a show with Yonrico on "Everything Is Everything" and a smokin' "Freddie's Dead".

All in all, an EXCELLENT show and an excellent recording by Jason Barbour, whom I'd never met until just before the show. THANKS, JASON!!!

Thomas Pope

Notes

* guest conga player's name is reportedly Lamont Sydnor

This is identical to the other copy of this show which is/was on the archive. Even the checksums are the same. Only the filenames have been changed, to be more consistent/to sort better. It is a replacement, not a new source, so, no matter how much of a completist you are, don't bother with this if you got the older version.
