Subject: no problem with set list
the set list may not change much but the songs themselves do. if you listen closely to to one of the more recent concerts and then one from even six months ago you can totally here differences in the performances. especially in the jams/improv parts. that's the great thing about this archive. you can really here the progress. every time you think that this band is unbeleivable and can't get any better- they blow you away even more. most recently, if you listen carefully to a lot of the shows form april on, Kofi seems to be getting a bigger spotlight on him. he seems to be featured a lot more on keyboards. i know this is Derek's show but it's great for variety to hear the other band members stand out. Plus, we all know Derek is a great soloist, but a have a listen to his comping when someone else is soloing--totally under rated.

the only problem with this show is that the sound is not too great.

Subject: HOW DARE I ?
the only thing i'd tell the band ( how dare i? ) is ' write more songs ' or " play a lot more covers ' great music & great muscians. amazing progress over the years. but the song remains the same. the setlists seem to rotate less often of-late.

peace

Subject: Carolina Theater
I was surprised that the show actually turned out as good as it did because the Carolina does NOT have a good PA and the sound was flying all around in an "airy" way large ceiling theaters with poor PAs can do.
Check out the 4-01-05 dTb show if you want to hear what the same setup on the same row can really sound like. Highly recommend the 4-01 if you even remotely like the 4-09. Enjoy!

Subject: good show
I attended this one, it was my first, and i was blown away. Derek Trucks is sick nasty at what he does. The sound is ok, vocals are hard to understand, but like the guy in the 1st review said, its a Derek Trucks show, so its not too big of a deal. The "My Favorite Things" is one of the highlights. Get this show, its damn good.

Subject: Vocals aren't so missing
During the first set of this recording the vocals are quite low. I'll have to attribute it to the house mix. They are much better during the second set. I downloaded this show for some friends who attended. I enjoyed listening to it, even though I burned the discs and gave them away. It is still quite an enjoyable download.

Subject: Good live recording - maybe a little close to the stage
The performance is great - typical Derek Trucks - and the recording realistically captures the 5th-row experience. The venue must have speakers way out to the side or something because the vocals (who really cares about vocals in a Derek Trucks concert?) are nearly impossible to hear or understand. The bass and drum thump are a little wimpy - probably due to the close recording location.

The quality of the recording is really, really good. The noise is low, the crowd noises are recorded just right.

Notes

The first photo shows Yonrico Scott receiving donations to his Medical Fund from folks who contributed to the "5in5 for Yonrico" (http://5in5foryonrico.com) campaign. The total was $1577.

The banner noted in the last 2 photos was made by Meredith Cohoon.

"Chicken" was a special request encore.
