In this segment, Richard discusses business models for Free Software. He says that developers are usually hired to adapt software for a client, or groups will sometimes pool money to pay for desired changes. He says that people also make money selling Free Software on CDs. he encourages people to charge a sufficiently high fee for the CDs that it is possible to make a living doing so.
Richard says that his primary work at the time of the interview was making speeches and writing published articles on behalf of GNU.org and the Free Software Foundation (FSF).
He says that the FSF is primarily engaged in selling manuals for using Free Software; in publishing the Free Software directory of all known Free Software packages, which can be found at gnu.org/directory ; and in enforcing the GPL.
