This is one of many short video segments which will be added to the Digital Tipping Point (DTP) archive. Dan Gillmor is the creator of the phrase, "Distributed Journalism", which is an indication of the fact that Dan was one of the first mainstream journalists for a major global newspaper to spot the impact that the Internet and Free Open Source Software would have upon the craft of reporting the news.
Dan's accomplishments are legion. He has won boatloads of honors and awards for his timely, incisive journalism. But for the purposes of the DTP film project, perhaps his most stunning accomplishment is his book, "We the Media." That book really will stand for decades as the first work to present a complete view of the future of journalism in the world of the Internet. Dan's observations in 2004, when the book came out, will be seen as prophetic. His book explains how the Internet would come to radically change the role of the former "audience" in creating and editing the news.
