Subject: Hookah in 96
I remeber being at this show and prolly have the cassete somewhere. It was the 4th hookah show in a row for me as they had played around ohio and michigan with the blind pig being the last one. From what I remember the place was packed. And i remember Hookah starting kinda slow, not wanting people to pass out from heat exhaustion. By the time the second set started, it had emptied out nicely and we were treated to an excellent 2nd. set. They were experminting with different segues with Dave's songs. They had been doing combos with Loner, Keeping Time, Grass, Ohio Grown, etc. This was one of the bigger versions. Then the spacy Freedon Flying>Vipers also a psychedelic jamfest. The ending SDTL and the encore of Athens Co. was a perfect sendoff. I love listening to this again, it reminds me of a very simple and wonderful time in my life. The dead would come through once or twice a year and I hadn't fallen fully in love with Phish at this point and Hookah was the most important band/family in my life. The scene was small yet so special. Later this year John would leave the band and nothing would ever be the same. (on a personal note, i grew to love Ed songs and energy. there came a point where he was putting out the most intresting music in the band) I use to think that Hookah could be the next big "jam band". Unlike moe. or SCI who went nationwide, Hookah always like to stay local. Now we'll never know how big they could be. Thank you Cliff and good luck. We'll see you somewhere down the line.

Subject: Hookah at their best
This is probably the best hookah show with John Mullins. Flawless versions of everysong. Sound quality is awesome.
