Notes
It would scarcely be exaggerating to say that ATP is the only music festival in the United States worth going to. Expertly curated, efficiently produced, and attended by serious fans, it is the opposite of most of the crassly commercial outdoor shitshows that try to pass for festivals in this country. Hosted in the dilapidated and somewhat freakish Kutsher's resort, ATP is an indie fan's paradise, with sets that start on time, a sound system that blows away even most good club systems, and bands that are the true masters of their craft.
Explosions in the Sky have garnered a huge following somewhat unusual for an instrumental rock band, partly on the strength of their relentlessly positive outlook as people, and in no small part due to the movie and TV series, "Friday Night Lights." As bands with some level of mainstream acclaim go, one could do a lot worse than these guys, whose live show doesn't pander to the FNL latecomers a whit. Instead, these guys do it the old-fashioned way, with expert musicianship, a commitment to fans, and a style that continuously evolves and expands.
