the former yugoslavia was formed in early 2000 in hendersonville, north carolina as an attempt to combat rural boredom, and by the end of 2004 a fairly large amount of material had been recorded and a fair amount of infamy had been acheived. not bad for a project that mostly existed on the kitchen table of a one-bedroom apartment. "discard" was the former yugoslavia's debut album, approximately an hour's worth of ambient music recorded during the winter of 2003/2004, using damaged vinyl records played on decommissioned classroom phonographs and processed through outboard effects units as its primary sound source. originally released as a limited edition of 100 copies, "discard" is presented here in expanded form, including as bonus material a 40-minute live rehearsal recording ("discard...stage left") and an "automatic remix" of sorts consisting of elements from the "discard" album played through a circuit-bent cd player. tfy is no more, but their legacy will always have a home at epicaricacy.
