Subject: Nice new name for me
Having come across the name of Cheju a certain number of times, I decided to go for this release and have a listen. I was already familiar with Lum's style and tastes (him being the b0ss) and this release confirms my expectations; this is ambient-driven electronics (and by that I mean there's space for micronoise, glitch, and interesting beats) of the neatest kind. The overall sound is very soft and the structures of the songs are crystal-clear, the mastering is well-done and, while not being a groundbreaking revelation, Cheju manages to produce some really pleasant electronics nonetheless. At parts it reminded me of some of Stud's works, and in very small part of Xerxes's grooves, but this is just some aesthetic likeness my mind might be making up. Overall this is a release I like quite a lot, and makes me feel confident with both the label and the artist.
For a first impression, be sure to check out "Turtlenecksyndrome" and "Sillon".
