Yes, the sound is great.
Yes, this was an excellent idea.
But the execution leaves something to be desired -- particularly the drumming.
Listen to track 2... if you're familiar with the original track, you'll recognize how much the drummer here is struggling. I mean, it's not a total loss, but it sounds like an early rehearsal. And it's kind of sad, because it has so much potential to be great. But it's just not.
Later tracks are mostly slower, downtempo numbers that leave lots of room for the band to fill in creatively... but, for the most part, they don't. All that space! All that room! What the hell are they doing?
Don't get me wrong... it isn't "bad." It's just... well... the impression is simply that the musicians aren't all that confident in their own performance.
Oh, and if you really want to cringe, listen to their encore, "Milkman." That milk has gone sour, and it's got some of those clumpy curdles in it, too. Yuck.

alright... it seems these boys are getting a lot of flack for this performance... when i read the Camp Bisco ad and saw that they were doing this, i was amazed at the sheer brilliance of the idea!
however, pulling off a live version of music that has such detailed, intricate production is another story... not an easy task!!! i think they did a good job of it, though... it just may have been too lofty of an idea in the first place, but their hearts are certainly in it! but for someone to say "they didn't practice" is absurd, that person has obviously not listened to much Richard D James!
If you are curious about this recording, check out tracks 4,5, and 6 for starters... AND if you feel like expanding your horizons--- head over into the Netlabels section here on the archive and check out Experimedia, much of the music is similiar to this, with fantastic production and integrity...

Even with an open mind this is not very well done. It seems they should have rehearsed a bit more. Overall future rock is pretty bland and uncreative. With the stakes as high as aphex, it just does not cut it.

Aphex aka FR was cool. The best part about this show was the ambience of the crowd and it was the only thing going on late night. The freaks came out at night and I enjoyed FR. I really like Aphex Twin but they took a more ambient angle at their music which kinda pissed me off since AT does crazy stuff. Regardless, bisco was overall one of the best shows I've been to.

Despite the clarity of this recording, Future Rock has once again left me disappointed. I got the chance to see them on a co-bill with Pnuma a couple of months ago, and the pairing clearly showed FR's shortcomings. They had a couple of good songs, but they really only sounded good when they played loud, which indicates that musically they aren't very strong, but they do have the ability to create energy with volume. When Pnuma came on, they really showed up Future Rock. No comparison. Funny thing is, FR has been around longer and has more experienced musicians.

It's common practice to date a tape based on the "scheduled" show date/time .. not the actual occurrence.
This is not unique to this show ... there are hundreds, if not thousands, of examples of this on LMA.
Nice recording.

This set was labeled 2006-08-25 because the Camp Bisco schedule had this as the FRIDAY late night show, which I assume is also the reason for the BP date.
Although, technically, I agree, it did take place on 2006-08-26.
Fun show, IMO, worth a DL and listen.

This set was performed in the early AM hours of August 26th, not 25th. The Brothers Past late night lodge set was also mislabeled the same way. Can the taper tell time? either way, thank you for taping! it sounds great!

there is a reason why so many bands count aphex twin as an influence, yet few cover his songs - the music is very complex and technical. i think future rock did a great job, especially considering the set took place at 4 AM in the pouring rain. i am looking forward to seeing more of this band.

I've seen these guys perform in Chicago and thought that their material was weak. This proves it. They take great source material like Aphex Twin and reduce it to cheezy and silly-sounding bites. Good sounding show, however. At least you can hear how bad they are in crystal clarity.
