...and it's a short film made for grade schoolers about paying attention to your dog. In it, Penny the dog gets into trouble after being ignored all afternoon. The narrator / mother explains that the dog only needs some attention now and then. It's a nice little lesson for young kids with dogs in their families.

Subject: The Primary Reading Series
Subject: The Primary Reading Series
This appears to be another in Britannica's Primary Reading Series, 6 films made to accompany Dick and Jane readers in 1952-53. Gordon Weisenborn and John Barnes collaborated on the series. Barnes did not see fit to list them in his filmography, and certainly next to PEOPLE ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI or THE CIVIL WAR (both here), it's understandable. But the films are not without their charms. In this one, the mobile camerawork early on is quite impressive and the shots of the dog leaping for the cat perched in the tree - appearing to be bouncing on a trampoline or thrown into the air from below frame - achieve a nice, cartoon-like comic effect.
Weisenborn and Barnes are credited as Associate Producers. The definitive filmographies for both are at the AFANA site, who have also digitized a small but rich collection of great titles from each filmmaker and posted them here.

"Frank & His Dog" still is an excellent film for children who have dogs. It gets to the point in an entertaining way.

The Plot: A dog when ignored can cause trouble.
The Moral: It's not the dog's fault, it's the owners fault so don't blame the dog.
Perfect for 8 an under crowd. Recomended.

I was going through the random alphabetical order thing when I came across this. Ok, then, I downloaded this movie to come across another one of these weird EB productions that you're not really too sure what is going on.
Penny the dog wants to play! But everyone's too busy! Soon, he finds the neighbor's cat and chases it up the tree! After getting it down, Frank is about to punish the dog until Frank's Mom says No! He wouldnt have chased the cat if we just played with Penny! Soon the kids are petting the dog furiously.
Now THAT was entertaining. NOT. LMAO. Features a narrator that sounds too much of the condenscending female narrator from 'Beginning Responsibility'.
