Subject: JK not original ?!?!
Subject: JK not original ?!?!
excuse me WILSON DUPREE. The name of the band is FURTHUR.. That means AHEAD....try and wrap your head around the REALITY of the situation...OK? Jerry is GONE Pigpen is GONE ...others are picking up the torch and keeping the flame lit. If YOU cannot accept THAT reality...I suggest you stay HOME and bemoan the losses. Imagine for a moment that you liked classical music; stick with me here; would you complain about a performance in Carnegie Hall because Mozart himself wasn't there? People die, are born, etc; this MUSIC ( which is what its all about - NOT personalities) is TIMELESS...and some veryvery deadicated people are keeping it alive. So my friend, get on the bus, and quit the backseat driving. Or get out of the way.

What an excellent AUD of a truly beautiful show. Goddess bless the tapers. Kiss a taper today! ~x~
I'm glad to hear someone found the water on the field. We could not, nor could anyone on staff direct us to it. Not even the guy at the entrance, who refused to allow me reentry if I dared leave in between sets. We were pretty close to front and center, and folks were dropping like flies all around us - both daze, passing out, falling flat on their faces. Scary. It might not have been as hot as it was in the city that day, but it was HOT and HUMID and us mammals need water to survive. Pleeeeeeeease don't murder us!
Other than that, I loved being there. Maybe it's b/c I live in the Fla. Gulf region now but to me, this was the oil spill show and I needed it. The boys are pissed, as well we should all be. If you are not outraged, you are not paying attention. Lots of references to earth mother, played and sung emphatically, from the heart of them.
Will the sun shine down on my back door again someday? * Black throated wind keeps on pouring in. * Nothing's for certain, it could always go wrong. * Picture a bright blue ball just spinning, spinning free, dizzy with eternity. Paint it with a skin of sky, brush in some clouds and sea, call it home for you and me. A peaceful place, or so it looks from space. A closer look reveals the human race. Full of hope, full of grace is the human face, but afraid we may lay our home to waste. There's a fear down here we can't forget... Ashes ashes all fall down. We are on our own. * (Hey but we have one more Saturday night! well uh huh!) * Dark star crashes, pouring it's light into ashes. Reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis. * One man gathers what another man spills. *
And we got the entire terrapin suite for the turtles. Maybe some will survive. Thank you Phil, Bobby, et al., for a real good time. I love you more than words can tell. <3

All the furthur shows i've listened to all start out on a high note but seem to come down a bit as the show lags on. Most noticed in the first sets.
Same can be said with this shakedown. I'm not a big fan of JK and i really dont care for DSO, but JK does a good job here. Caution however just does not sound right unless pigpen is singing it. Giving the talent russo has, this could have been done a lot better then whats played here, and would have also gave him a little drum jam spot.
All in all this band sounds better then they did last year, but have a long way to go to reach their potential. I still don't hear anything that tells me the magic is back. Looking at threads from the otherones and the dead shows posted here every time some form of the dead emerges it's "the best thing since jerry was alive". It's not. Thats not to say it's bad, i dig it, just not enough to go out on a limb to see them every show.
On another note, i've gotten blasted for a few of my comments about JK, so i just want to let yez know JK was a good friend of a friend of mine in chi town, who sadly passed away in 2006. He's a nice guy, a cool dude and plays a good immitation. Just not very original.
Ok, yous can shoot me now.

Thank you tapers for getting this music out there, for all the world to enjoy, no words can explain my appreciation. I wish there was some way we could give back to the tapers, for all these years . . . amazing people they are!!
Not really fair to give this show 5 stars with the looming monster that is Sunday's show. Take nothing away from Saturday, but Sunday was IT.

Great JK wind up to Black Throated. Excellent first half of Caution, mighty good. One of the best Jack Straws I could hope to hear--real power there (for me, that was the highlight of the show). Decent Eleven. At a Siding was a treat. Much of the rest fell flat for me, esp. the dreadful Sax coming out of Dark Star part 2 into Terrapin. Phil's chuckle when he forgot the lyrics during "speeding arrow" was fun. But IMHO, the second night's second set packed far more punch.

I don't know if it is the mix or recording but Phils bass as well Weirs guitar is too loud, they overide JOhn's guitar, especially on Shakedown. Too much twanging.

Did several Furthur shows in Feb and seems the boys are continuing to gell. Still, I believe that John K can REALLY cut loose but is holding back. Still great though.
First set was a little slow. Not sure I like Bobbys take on Loose Lucy. He steps back between lyrics and that looses some of the momentum for me. He did that on next night on TOO and I liked it. AWESOME "
Black Throated Wind!!! Highlight of 1st set.
2nd set was incredible! Someone mentioned that they had hoped that Sunday was better given this setlist. WHAT???
Great show, fun all around. and what Deadhead could not love being at Coney Island on a Sat night dancin to Shakedown! Then into a wild Caution!!!!

first time at MCU park and was on the floor on phils side. Sound was awesome, not too loud and well mixed. beautiful weather except for a few sprinkles as the show began. not as hot as the city was that day. Field was weird, only port a pots, hot dogs, beer and water (not that you really need anything else) but couldn't leave the floor for the stands
The boys were having fun up there, paying attention and interacting a lot. John and Phil were all smiles, and as far as bobby, voice sounded great, playing was smooth and fun, but I just don't know about the cat in the hat look he has going. Phil flubbed some words too!!
Anyway, great set lists and playing. the meat of the show in the second set was great fun and my first st stephan ever (after >100 shows in the 80's and 90's).
Was at the show was 4 old college friends, and when I turned around and saw all of them dancing around, I was all smiles!!> And thank you. . . for a real good time.

I don't know what to review! The quality or the show!
The quality is amazing. Listen for yrself, it is top notch. As for the show itself, WOW. I CANT GET OVER THE INTRO INTO CAUTION. THE BEST IVE HEARD IN YEARS. YEARS!
Thank you taper! THANK YOU! This is definitely the highlight of my night. Intimate Stroudsburg will be excellent also, i'm sure.

The issue with balance between right and left channels was a problem with my computer speakers. I burned a copy and it sounds very very very good.
