The Furthur show that almost wasn't!
I was at this show! It was amazing! I loved Furthur with John Kadlecik, he loves this music and I think really represents, and can play like the devil. So this was a show that almost wasn't. This date was supposed to be at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont, I think the town realized too late, that this was a GD show, and the show was cancelled at the last minute. The band, bless 'em, searched for another venue. Somehow they ended up at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg PA, quite a ways from Vermont, a nice small old local theater, that I have seen lots of more local acts at (go see Railroad Earth!). I managed to score a ticket, it was hard to get, this is a small theater, only 1,800 or so standing capacity (way more than that were inside) Smoking hot show. Literally. It was really hot that day, like over 100. The Sherman's air conditioning totally failed and it was sweltering inside. I felt like I was going to pass out from the heat. I don't know how the band managed to put on such a good show. But it was fantastic. Look at that set list, all good. Two Pink Floyd covers? You don't see that everyday. During his organ donor rap, Phil said:
"Thanks so much for coming out and uh, joining us here, for a little uh, little uh, how should I say, "good old sweat box music". And, uh, it's really gratifying to see you all can show up on such short notice, sorry we had to cancel that other thing, this is the only thing that we could find, so we came here to play for you guys, and it was Cool! Thank you!"
I have never before seen a show like this get moved at the last minute, much less moved many states away! It was a really incredible moment in time.
Also love this perfect quality "official soundboard"! Awesome! Thank you for posting this, Matthew Vernon! Peace y'all!
