Subject: Awesome playing
Wasnt at this show but I am enjoying it right now thanks to the taper :)
Someone was talking about how in The Eleven John's playing sounds "out of sych". This is because the band goes back to playing in 12/8 while John keeps playing the 11/8 lick, he goes through it 11 times to meet back on the down beat with the band. That's really cool, So I would consider John to be great at playing in eleven...Anyways, I love this band and can't wait for the November tour!!!

This show is a monster. The energy is through the roof. Looking for a Furthur show that stacks up to the Dead's better stuff in the '80s -'90s? Want something to play for an old head who won't accept anything post-Jerry? You've arrived at the right place. Download this show, then check out the other Pennsylvania shows. Keystone state got all the love this tour and you'd be hard-pressed to prove otherwise. And don't forget -tapers allow many of us to hear these shows when we wouldn't otherwise, so show them love the next time you see them. Buy them a beer at least.

Subject: Possibly the best show of a great tour
Subject: Possibly the best show of a great tour
Just got done listening to this one. If you're only going to download one show from this tour, this one should be it. Great song selection, strong playing from beginning to end. The transitions are especially smooth in this one. Scarlet>Shakedown, Playin'>Eleven, China Doll>Fire, etc. Shakedown is getting the &%*$ played out of it; 7-11 is another killer version. The first sets at Mann tended to peter out, though, whereas here they lay it on you.
My only quibbles would be that John still isn't quite comfortable with playing in 11/8 time; his leads here are prosaic. Near the end of The Eleven, they start to get out of sync, but that leads to another nice transition into Colors. Also, John's playing on Time/Breathe needs some work. I'm really unimpressed by the Musics they're playing this tour; the tempo is too slow, and Bob's "Never Stop" vocal is just annoying.
The Other One, however, is played at a faster clip than 6/30 and sounds a lot tighter than that one as well, like they're really getting it to cook. The majesty of Death Don't and Unbroken Chain is undeniable. Not to mention a hot China>Rider to end it. If this isn't the best Further show I've heard, it's probably a close second to 7-11, which I was fortunate to attend (come on, someone, post that one!) I'm not sure how to rate it, though. Should I be comparing these shows with the greats like 9-21-72, 6-10-73, etc.? Maybe it doesn't matter. This is incredible music being made in our time. I hope you all are getting to hear some of it live.

Subject: HOT VENUE HOT SHOW
Subject: HOT VENUE HOT SHOW
The soundboard is an awesome recording that confirms what I heard at the venue-- the band outperformed all the Furthur shows I had seen [four so far and tonight is next]. This band is truly playing with Jerry's approval and they finally topped the Atlantic City show 2.27.10, which my wife and I thought previously might not be possible.
This was quintessentially Dead live in the blazing heat of a packed small theater, or as Phil noted afterwards, "nothing like a sweatbox show" to make it REALLY rock !

Subject: What A Show -- What a Band -- What a Scene
Subject: What A Show -- What a Band -- What a Scene
This was the fourth show that I've seen on the tour, and I'm getting a little tired of saying "This was the best Furthur show I've seen." This one had it all -- the 110 degree heat box of a theater, sweaty 'heads all packed into a room, grooving to the music as the band played for life.
The band played as tightly as ever and continues to get better. John K is just amazing and knows this music like you can't believe. The guy is a great addition and can really carry the band when necessary. If you met him, you'd think that he's the perfect musician -- humble, down to earth and just a good guy. I can't wait for him to start introducing some of his originals into the mix.
Song choice continues to astound me and delight me -- you never know what's going to play next, and every tour, they add new songs.
This show was especially dear to me as I'm an East Stroudsburg University graduate; when I heard that the band that I'm nearly on tour this summer was playing my home-away-from-home, I had to go, and what a show.
This isn't some old band that's recycling the old music. They add songs (both originals and covers), their current repertoire continues to evolve as they tweak songs or someone else sings new parts; it's a moving machine that continues to evolve and refine itself. Pink Floyd's Time? Woah, hold onto your trousers, because it was done like you couldn't believe.
The energy in this place was enough to make you explode. The heads were charged up and excited; you've never felt such a vibe. A truly amazing night of music by the best in the business.
I recently heard someone call the 'heads something that I think that you could say about the band itself and the whole scene -- we accept others for who they are, faults and all. We accept them as perfectly imperfect.
Okay, jumping off my soap box now. One last thought -- I wish that Mickey and Bill could be part of this, but their involvement must carry a weight (of "The Dead") that is quite difficult. With that said, this is the next evolution of The Dead, and I think it will be here for some time to come. All of the elements are there -- the scene, the music, the attitude. Let's hope the music never stops.

wow, if Maine hadn't been so far away, and not so drained after Nateva (the heat in the room would have done us in for sure) - but this was even closer to home than Penn's Peak!
to my ears, sounds like they hit a lull during Time and Death Don't, but it picked up again with Unbroken, and China/Rider (listening as I type) is just blistering. Temperature in the room must have hit a peak at that point. Vermonters must be getting ready to burn Shelburne to the ground...

Subject: Stadium tour setlist intimate venue...Furthur is FOREVER!!!
IMO, After seeing 55 actual Grateful Dead and JGB shows, I can say that last nite was the best nite of music quality, song choice and energy I have heard post-Jerry RIP. (seen over 50+ dead remnant band shows).
Although the venue was oversold, SRO overcrowded and extrememly hot it was well worth the price of admission. Which by the way the scalpers can all rot in you know where...asking $150 for a ticket...please.
Now as far as the music...the opening trio of tunes was the spark that started the fire that NEVER went out until the box of rain cooled things down...a bit.
As you can see nearly every tune segwayed into the next with little or no pauses in between which made for a very "Dead" like guessing game of what was to come next. The music never stopped is fitting for the description of this performance.
Scarlet was unique, shakedown was playful and promised land was deliberate and forceful. Candyland was a needed break but so loving almost childlike. The Playin was a bit restrained in the early jam but opened up a bit into the eleven then came a nice new Phil tune that really fit in quite nice...needs some polish but way to go for new material...the Playin right into one of the most powerfull throwin stones i have seen in some time ended a truly hot and happy first set!!!
Second set the anticipation was built during break when the doors were open along side the seats and the crowd took advantage of the outdoor/indoor scene to get right for the finale!!!
All i can say is i nearly had tears in my eyes the entire china doll and had a hearfelt jerry moment of longing for his presence. the china doll was so passionate you could close your eyes and remember when...
Fire on the mountain is my favorite song so i might be partial in saying this but that was an incredible fire...it was physical in form and function...the heat in the building added to the layering of all the musicians intricite little parts that make up a successful Fire and the stew they brewed was ON FIRE by the end...the other one was good but no bomb drop bass lick in the beginning as normal par...but all in all a powerful jammy otherone...i hear the PF Time tease and thought oh well it is either going to be awesome or fall short and it wasn't the latter but a well played tribute to the other psychodelic rock artists of our TIME...the death don't have no mercy on people perspiring in the sherman and there needed to be mercy as we almost moved to tears again in this stellar performance...john really fits in sooooooooo well it is eeerily scary at times...unbroken chain was great as usual no complaints...the music never stopped was the most i have danced in years...
Then when you you knew the close was coming soon all of a sudden we were treated to one of the best china rider build ups i have ever heard post jerry RIP...i felt like i got the crap knocked out of me...i was jumping up and down like a phish show but with some reserve as the crowd was tight and sweaty...
Thank god for the box of rain as it was the perfect ending to the best day of 2010 for me!!!
Oh yeah, Lesh is GOD, He drove the PHIL TRAIN in overdrive, TRUE HDTV, Phil was dancing all nite on stage smiling the whole time and it felt like it was Summer 89 all over again!!!
