Subject: Perfect Show!
I heard the smokin Terrapin from this show on Sirius and thought I would pull it up. Not a surprise that has been downloaded 14,000 times in such a short period of time. Spectacular set list and each song is basically perfect! They clearly wanted blow the roof off and delivered in spades. I am partial to ROR and Terrapin, but it’s all good! I am a new deadhead, but I have to take issue with anyone that doesn’t think these guys sound great. Yes JK is not Jerry, but he fits like a glove and brings his own twist to these songs that helps them evolve. And Chimenti’s keys? Fuggedaboutit! Bobby’s guitar seems to be better than his voice these days, but it is just sweet that he is still workin it and making it happen (often quite brilliantly). Phil is like a fine wine, growing better with age. I will be hitting GOTV next year for sure! This recording is also great – sounds almost like a soundboard to me. Nice job Mr. LaPorte.

This is one of my favorite festivals. Unofficially a dead tribute festival. I used to live in VT and knew some of the people in TERRAPIN, the group that organizes this festival. This show was awesome, Playin was sick, Terrapin was sick. Estimated~Eyes~NFA first set closer. GOD DAM. Only to be topped by the next show. Everyone needs to check out the golden gate park show from outside lands. WOW. Best show I have ever seen in my life. Even my non dead head friends were just blown away.(Literally). It was so loud, and so intense.
Fire~Other One~The Eleven~Terrapin~Unbroken Chain~Morning Dew~I Know you Rider.
This second set was just amazing. Joe Russo is the man on drums. They had a time limit in golden gate park, so they just jammed hard! Morning Dew was intense! No one there to record it though. And its not posted here. I guess the boys know which ones to sell.

Subject: My 40th BDay Show
Subject: My 40th BDay Show
I caught this show as it was the conclusion to a run of 9 shows on summer tour (and 12 shows in 2010) and my 40th birthday -- what a birthday show it was.
While the crowd was shifty--it seemed like no one ever settled down and just listened, instead walking around the entire show--and they kept throwing light sticks which must have hit the band -- the show was out of this world. Who got all the light sticks? Why do people feel the need to throw them?
Every song built and built and built, to the conclusion in the ENCORE -- terrapin. Full terrapin, in an encore. They played till 1:30 in the morning -- what a band, what a scene, what a wonderful 40th birthday.
Was it a tribute to Jerry as his birthday was on 8/1? Was it because it was the end of the summer tour here on the East coast? Was it because it was my 40th birthday?
We all take something different from the shows, the scene, the music, the band. That's what makes it so amazing, so incredible, so magical, after all these years.
Take what you need from the shows, keep them special and magical, stop throwing those glow sticks!
Thanks for the quality recording.

I love hearing this show - thanks for posting!
I've never been to the Gathering of the Vibes, but I may have to next time, even though I'm kind of old for that sort of thing now (not as old as Phil Lesh, though). I do have tickets to see Furthur at Red Rocks in September, so I will go out there and visit my son and we will go rocking together.
I attended the University of Bridgeport back in the '70s, and spent a lot of time out in Seaside Park, including some pretty heavy trips, on my own and with friends. It is a really great park, and I look forward to a return trip.

beautiful and inspiring show! I was right up front, left side, in front of Phil's bass head. Changed my life!!! Vibes was back to its old self and the weather was fine!!! not to mention that they controlled the awesome breezes in the air on that hot summer night. The breeze went with the different parts of each song!!! the whole show was a peak!

listening to this and dancing with a whole crowd of adoring deadheads was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. The energy of scarlet, the beauty of eyes, and the intensity in he's gone (for obvious reasons) is just amazing.

It has absolutely made my day today to find that Chris has done such an outstanding job recording this show. When I didn't buy it at the venue, and couldn't find it on the Furthur site, I thought damn! now what am I going to do. But, hallelujah, I should have known the recording heroes at the show, would post the music for all of us to enjoy again and again. THANK YOU CHRIS! Were you camping on the waterfront by any chance?

Best Tour of 2010....Period!!
The band plays tribute to Jerry big time from Althea to Terrapin. All the way through that segment(run)the lyrical content of the songs are noticable set and sung in this order by the band in my humble opinion because it's the 15th anniversary time of year of Garcia's death. Not to mention his birthday just two days later. Garcia's Spirit is driving this band along as well. Listen to the juxtaposition between the Standing on the Moon lyric "There's a lovely view of heaven, but I'd rather be with you" and the Help on the Way opening line..."Paradise wait's....as if to speak up at heaven and relay to Jerry's Spirit that the music must go on...here on Earth with the living first...for now. He's Gone into Scarlet Begonias. He's Gone obviously has taken on a new meaning for some as well as holding on to it's original intent.I mean going from the mournful chant at the end into probably one of the best known and reconizable Garcia song's is inspirational to say the least. I'm just sayin' cause it's what i'm feelin'ya. Also The Wheel...a rarely performed Jerry solo tune that automaticly makes one see Jerry's face clear as day. Talk about inspiration. Terrapin is the perfect song...that does make one stand and say WOW!..a way to instill a lasting memory of Jerry. After all he was the one who wrote these wonderful song's. This version of Franklin's Tower is balls to the wall...hammer down rock 'n roll. Just listen you can hear it through out the second set. Garcia's Spirit...in my opinion is alive in the wind helping to drive this band into magical places. Beyond the realm of what now. Can't hardly wait to see my portion of the fall tour starting here in Seattle for me...EastCoast Gregman.

Subject: A little bit Furthur...
Went to 8 shows this tour, more than I had expected to originally, and overall it's been great. Chose the title for this post b/c amazingly it was my first Wheel in 14 shows. By contrast, I managed to catch every Jackstraw, Franklin's, Eyes, and Fantasy (the night before) of the tour. Would love to have heard a few different songs on these last three nights (especially "Time"), and it does seem like they're underplaying some songs they did in the spring and winter. That being said, it was a fairly nice night, with great weather, and the full Terrapin encore (with the GOTV terrapins to either side of the stage) was a real treat, as Furthur played on till nearly 1:30. In the meantime, they had already announced their next set of area shows in November. Doesn't seem like they could possibly sell out MSG, so hopefully it will be fairly intimate despite the size.
Notably on this night, they played Estimated > Eyes for what appears to have been the first time since Mardi Gras 2/26/95, according to DeadBase and OtherOnes.net. Four stars for this welcome return, plus the excellent tour-ender encore.

Amherst and BOTH Coney Island shows were amazing. Where were you buddy?? Just sat down to listen to this one. I can only hope it compares to the first night at Coney (Dark Star, Terrapin, China->Rider opener!!!)I'm sure they got it done, because you can never count these guys out. After the trainwreck the first night at Nokia, I knew coming back the next day they would blow the roof off. THATS why we still go see these guys...5 stars just for the setlist

I've been groovin to Chris's fantastic recording all day today. Amazing Golden Road, Jack Straw, Not Fade, Scarlet. Epic Terrapin. They sound like they are giving it their all, and promise much more for the future. I was on the fence about Furthur for a while (still am, I suppose). Underwhelming shows at Hammerstein, Amherst, first night at Coney Island had me scratching my head about why I was still going to shows. But this one shows some real growth from the touring this summer, and a payoff for the repetitive song selections. Thanks so much for the fine recording Mr. LaPorte.
