WOW THIS IS SO FUN!!!
I've been following Furthur on archive, and I've enjoyed much, but until now I haven't heard an entire show of this depth. Personally I favor Phil and Friends from 2000-03 with the quintet. I've enjoyed Rob Barraco and John Molo far more than the current players. But with this show both Jeff and Joe are in the groove, and John is so much more of what I wanted Garcia to be when he wasn't healthy. My only complaint is that Bob Weir is the weak link on this one to my ears. So I've finally found in Terrapin and the Other One a show fro this band that says the peak is not over!!!
On the other hand, I would like to promote the quintet aka PLQ. Here's some recommended selections:
4-29-01 Broken Arrow>
Viola>
Shakedown
6-30-01 She Said She Said>
Mountains of the Moon
7-1-01 Doin That Rag>
Bartha
5-23-02 Till the Mornin' Comes>
Unbroken Chain>
Night of a 1000 Stars
5-28-02 Leave Me Out of This
Fire on the Mountain
6-1-02 Dark Star>
St. Stephen>
The 11>
Dark Star
8-31-02 entire show
9-25-03 """"""
11-14-03"""""""
11-15-03 1st set - my 40th b-day
I know many people have a hard time adjusting to Jimmy H or Warren, bur after I got over my expectation of hearing these songs the way I heard them in the past, I found a whole new universe.

Great recording. Have to admit that the mountain song is a high-point. A very enjoyable set. Furthur is truly taking it further. Can't wait to hear more from the gents.

This show is just bristling with energy. A beautiful night at the Rocks. The openiong of H>S>F, Alabama, Sittin On Top of the World was powerful. The Viola Lee sandwich with Bertha and Cunmerland was real nice. Set 2 just continued with the energy flow. Terrapin Suite>Unbroken Chain>Eleven>Dark Star>Stella Blue>Other One was just great. This was the best post-Jerry show I have seen.

The whole run was intense but this night in general was amazing! Viola sandy=Awesome Terrapin=Awesome Other One=Mind Melting!! Joe's "hummingbird impression" on terrapin... delicious!! Great vibes here and great music to boot. Anyone else who was there knows what went down on Saturday Night and it was an experience never to be forgotten. I truly hope those boys make it back up to the mountain again sooooon.

Echoing what others have said, so sorry to be repetitive, but what an amazing evening! I have been going to shows at RR for over 20 years, and this was the BEST I have seen. I agree, there was something magical and/or mystical going on that night. I have never heard music played like that before...it was like it was from another dimension (and that's not drugs talking, people). Lestafari's comments were spot on...

Anyone else see, hear, or feel spirits onstage during setbreak? Maybe it was just the RIP John Henry Bonham 9/25/1980 that they displayed on the big screen that got me thinkin of it. But then the crazy drumming! - when you believe in things you dont understand - What a show start to finish.

Being at this show was a blessing. I have never seen anything like it, and I really doubt I will ever again. After seeing 7 Furthur shows this year, this was easily the one to see. I would have put down all the money on tickets I spent (for 7), just for this one night. It was magical, and I can't put into words what it was like. Listen to the set, that will only be 1/100 of the SHOW. The crowd was together, on the exact same level. 100 miles above red rocks watching in awe.
Music wise it was top-notch. I've never seen such solid, on-point jams from songs into nothing back into songs. John K is pushing every single person in this band to their limits, and it adds a lot to an already incredible experience. Highlights were Other One, Terrapin Suite, Unbroken Chain, Mountain Song and without a doubt STELLA BLUE. First set highlight was H>S>F, though I had been dying to see them open a show with it.
I don't know if there is some incredible chemistry at this show, or they are just getting better. Sunday didn't seem half as solid, and the March shows (3/6/10 especially was mind blowing) look like kids play compared to this crazy great night.
Catch 'em while they are still smokin'!

Lestafari-That the the coolest, most concise review I've ever read on the archive! Without pointing out one detail of the set, your ride there, the drugs you took, or anything else relevant to the recording, you painted a perfect picture of what this night was like!!!
P.S. I was NOT there, but I sure wish I had been! This 3 night run, to my ears, is the closest it'll ever get to what the Grateful Dead experience was. I've listened to lots of the Furthur stuff, and I gotta say, they get better and better! Cannot wait for Chicago!!!!!!!!!!

Looking back, setlist wise and jam segues were all well executed and pleasing for all to hear.
Help>Slip>Frank Alabama Sitting On top, a lovely Viola Lee wrap around (boy Phil loves doing that), and the highlight of the evening: Stella Blue> Other 1 closer, out of its usual dead setlist order (Other One>Stella Blue) made for some very interesting and inspired playing.
Thanks boys. Keep it coming, Bobby: play Brother Esau!!!

checked all the versions of this postings available - this one sounding best!
was thrilled to read about 2 all new songs by this band, based on ideas David Crosby and Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia (as far as i understood) were involved with...heard them...listened to them...let them infiltrate my ears...floated away, High On A Mountain first, meandering, wonderfully cryptical, over the hills and far away...
than Mountain Song, so simple the melody, so swampy the rhythm, so perfect the feel when you hear these vocals with bobby voice-hovering over the multilayered choir.
amazing, enlightening, deadsolidperfect!
then moved back to the start of the show, where after the Help-triptych mr.kadlecik took over for AL getaway.
got in the mood immediately, kind of sit-dancing on my bureau chair, foot stomping and head waving, looking forward for what to attempt regarding the really breathtaking setlist, smiling all the time at this real foggy cloudy early fall season caricature of a day in south western Germany...
H A !
i got it better, hot red rocks on my ears! and the thrilling Mountain Song yet to come (again!). 's wonderful, innit?

Wow. glad they finished up the dark star from vegas, i definitely thought i was losing my mind waiting for that second verse... will definitly travel more to see this band. they have come so far.

Subject: Famous Redrocks Amphitheatre Melts!
Subject: Famous Redrocks Amphitheatre Melts!
Local officials are surveying what's left of the world-famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Denver, Colorado. Channel 7 News interviewed several dazed individuals following a concert by the rock band "Further" last Saturday evening, but were unable to ascertain what actually happened. While information is still coming in, most of those interviewed could provide few details and could only offer comments like "wow" and "holy crap." A lone Security Guard familiar with the band indicated that sometime during the second set, a plasma wave emanated from the stage and combined with the crowd energy to cause the entire amphitheatre to melt into a red ooze that subsequently "evaporated into thin air." Geologists are unable to explain the phenomenon and the Department of Homeland Security is investigating the incident. More news at The Eleven.

...simply put...this is just a killer show...comes right out of the blocks with a tasty H-S-F...and then it just gets...bettah n'bettah...the first set Viola triple sammmy with its hopped up seemless transitions is already gaining notoriety...and it's only days old...(essentially, a second set as first set)...then it's onto the second set...where the Terrapin Suite is simply sublime...and then it's a very tasty romp thru The Eleven>Unbroken Chain>Dark Star v2>Stella Blue>...which only leads into a fantastically psychedelic melt down The Other One which is just candy on top of the whole enchilada...n'ah very, very nice cherry on top it is...to be savored...then...because it is, afterall, Saturday night...n'just 'bout everybody saw it comin' after it didn't show up in the first set...Bobby gets his just desserts (fer being a good doobie thruout the show n'bringin' great vocals n'guitar fills) with a rockin' n'rollin' One More Saturday Night that's just good clean fun...and absolutely not a let down after what just transpired over the previous several hours...what a show...and what a musical journey...this iteration of post-Jerry survivin' head Deads known as Furthur is now a bona fide band in its own right...they have found a way to jell n'now can really go places...n'take you there...tah boot...this band has progressed tremendously since last March...they no longer have any lingerin' vestiges of merely "coverin" the material...they now evince the confidence to step up n'make it their own...again...it could be a real fun ride as long as they feel the need...for speed...from here on out...could be some real good times...n'shows...furthur down the road...enjoy'em...while they're hot...

Thanks to the tapers for getting these shows up so quickly. Looking forward to seeing 9/26 here soon too. I am kicking myself for not getting to these shows. Caught the Redmond (Seattle) show, but thought long and hard about hitting up Red Rocks. Work/family/cost/life got in the way. Should have gone for it! What a 3-night run. I'm floored by this Sat. night show. That Viola stuff is nuts. These guys are playing better and better. Hmmm....fly out to see MSG tour closers? A definite possibility.
