I think it's great that Phil and these guys are still doing this at all. I don't even care what the set list is, whether or not it's the best show of the run or any of that crap. If it's fun while you're there, if you get to go, enjoy the show. If you get to listen to it afterward for free, dig that too.
I think that the over intellectualizing and hyper-critical nit picking on these forums is just dreary. You're not impressing anyone with your knowledge of the band(s)or "who shoulda'" sang this or played that.
By the way, this old L.D. got on the bus in '66 and never got off.
I like this mix. Good job, taper! Thanks everybody!

Wow, people sure do get upset when you criticize these guys. I stand by my opinion that this was a weak show, especially after the energy packed show of the night before.
Just to clear up matters, I am not a musician, but I was in the concert promotion business for 10 years, so I do have a very good understanding how much goes into putting on a show. I also was not the guy behind you talking during the whole show. When I attend a show, I give my attention to the band. I didn't travel 500 miles from Utah to chatter during the show.
The first 2 nights were great. After a very high energy Saturday night where they played only 2 Bobby tunes, Bob came back with a vengeance on Sunday and they played an uninspired final show at the Rocks. It seemed as if every time the energy would step up, the band would play a slow, bland tune that would serve to dampen the energy. I mean, really, Days Between after KSM. The song sounds like a dreary heroin trip. At least with Jerry there was some interesting rhythmic phrasing going on in the song.
For me the highlights were: Golden Road, BRB, LIG, St Stephen and The Wheel.
All in all, this was a pretty disappointing show to me, but the previous 2 nights were very nice. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
After listening "furthur" to this show, I agree that my review was a little harsh so I am upgrading my rating from 1 to 3 stars.
As far as the band goes, after seeing them 5 times (admittedly not a real large sample) and listening to numerous other shows over the last few years, here's my take.
Kadlecik has obviously spent a lot of time learning and practicing Jerry and Jerry style licks, and while he has the notes down, there is not much soul there. His phrasing and rhythms are somewhat pedestrian.
Furthur is obviously Phil's baby, and he has injected so many pre-rehearsed jams and rhythms in the songs that, while tight and polished, it doesn't appear that there is a lot of room for real ad-libbing. I appreciate that a lot of folks disagree, but the jams seem pretty generic to me. It seems (again, strictly speaking for myself) that the "Wow" moments are few and far between.

Jeez you guys. Reminds of that ol' saying. "Opinions are like a-holes everyones got one and they all stink." You are obviously not musicians and have no idea what it takes to put on a show (let alone to such critical fans). Just don't go to the shows and download them here. We won't have to hear you talking behind us during the whole show either. Great show boys thanks for keeping the music alive.

I was lucky enough to catch 6 shows on the tour. Sunday night at Red Rocks was not the best but was still a good show.
Let it grow was great and the jam out of St. Stephen was fun. Seemed like everyone was a bit tired after Saturday night.
Can't believe the one star rating or the picking apart of Furthur. We are lucky to have them still playing GD songs as well as they are. The magick is still there and the crowds all feel it. Where else can you tap into it musically? I've been looking for 15 years and finally found it again with Furthur. Hope they can keep it together for a long time!!

I thought this was probably the weakest show of the Redrocks run, but it was still a good show. Definite a Bob-fest, lots of tunes i saw the GD play at Redrocks in the 80's... I tend to agree that this band seems a little too polished at times, not as exploratory as when Jerry was leading the way. I still consider myself extremely lucky to be back at Redrocks to hear some well played Grateful Dead music one last time.

That one guy is wrong about this being a one star show, but I don't think it was the best Furthur show I have seen at all.
Either way, Bobby shouldn't try to sing Days Between. His vocal pacing gets really annoying and detracts from Garcia's melodies. It almost seems like he goes too camp with it. Also let John sign Brokedown Palace Blow Weird!
Highlights include Throwing Stones (yay), an extended Dear Mr. Fantasy, a cute Saint Stephen, and Alabama Getaway.
I'm gonna have to say that the Furthur shows at Broomfield in March had better setlists going on. We all like Ashes and Glass and Two Dijnn, but this is not Ratdog, and those songs get silly when Furthur could draw on so many more impressive cuts to move a critical and ready to party Red Rocks crowd. Why the fuck do they like Magnolia Mountain so much? Phil!!!! Also, don't save songs like Foolish Heart and Gimmie' Some Lovin only for east coast shows, WE LIKE THE 80s TOO, and not just touch of grey. ;)
So yeah, Furthur isn't as good as Phil Lesh Quintet or early Ratdog, but its what we have. Yeah it's polished sounding. But Phil Lesh is 70 and Ratdog was getting really shitty, so what's wrong with polished and rehearsed? Atleast Phil and Bobby are playing together. Some people may not like it, and 70 bucks isn't cheep, even for Redrocks, but I really don't think that Furthur deserves a 1 star show any less than a poor 1986 show or something.
Also, even if you didn't like the show, Don't one star review a tapers recording because it will degrade the rating he gets on Archive because you don't like Furthur's musical direction.

@Purple Gel, I feel for you having an experience like that when everyone else was having a fantastic time listening to music that really moved us. I thank God that I am not so discriminating and critical that I have to pick everything to death until there is no spirit. I've been going to Dead shows since 1973 and I truly can hardly recall one better than 9-26 at Red Rocks. I guess I'm a sucker for awesomely talented musicians playing incredible and classic songs hard and tight in a perfect venue for an appreciative crowd. Oh well, my loss I guess... I don't get to consider myself superior to all those churls having fun at such an obviously inferior concert. And by the way, the Wheel was followed by Sugar Mag, not Days, a segue of an entirely different character that lifted me to another level. I laughed, I cried, I danced, I got really high and happy, and bottom line that is what it's all about.

I was at this show and the previous 1-star review couldn't be more wrong. The energy was great all 3 nights, all 3 shows were amazing, but the band took it to another level during the second set this evening. From Let It Grow on, they were raging. Really, really powerful stuff. I know everyone's experience is different, but everyone I talked to at these shows had an incredible time. This was far from a 1-star show.

I was lucky enough to catch all three nights...Saturday probably gets the nod as the best show, but Sunday was very hot too, between the setlist, pacing, and presentation. Second set was hot and incredibly powerful. I was in tears during the LIG > Stephen > KSM > Days > Wheel sequence. So powerful.
Great recording...the volume was really cranked (but not unpleasantly so) at the venue so I was pretty sure the tapes would come out pretty aces. This recording proves me right.
