My LOVE for these guys and gal need no qualification... The Once upon a time BIG BAND, which now has become the little band that COULD ;) For FURTHUR to have narrowly sold out MSG on consecutive nights, with no CD released EVER, and little to no PR and fanfare, simply defies the laws of gravity. With this as a backstory, how can anyone not get all fuzzy and warm inside watching two senior citizens play as if they were in their 20's again. While all of this is worthy of a Hallmark Christmas Special in Deadheadland, the real story, the "Rocky Balboa, Gonna Fly Now" epic tale at hand is the John K. story. I know all the haters will disagree, but how far is John K. going to ascend? It is the Cinderella Story of rock and roll. His vocals are beginning to take on a swagger, but next to his unexpected rise as a guitar player with gravitas, all else wanes.Just when I was getting the feeling that John was perhaps feeling the unique strain which comes with standing on stage with Phil and Bobby and falling flat (Art Park to be precise)John and the rest of them shift gears and become a great band on their own by giving the East Coast a 2011 Spring Tour which left those who LOVE really, really GREAT music screaming for more.
So here I am, summer tix in hand, and I am screaming "MORE!!!!!" right along with this swelling tidal wave of devoted Furthur Freaks, "MORE"!!!! ;)
