this is it
Uncle John's Band feels unique indeed.
Jerry's intro & solo are gorgeously tender & poignant.
5 stars at least !

Not a very spirited performance. Some good jams. Unfortunately incomplete.

Mirror Shatters...
Probably more attention focused on the New Years eve show the next night but there is plenty to listen to hear. I started with the incomplete Dark Star and just worked my way from there.
The more laid back organ gives the Dead such a different sound then they would have once Keith was added to the Heart of Gold band.
The vocals are interesting to listen to as well. The harmonizing is pretty cool.
New Speedway is so laid back and bluesy. Even though it is mainly a Jerry tune it just drips with Pig's influence.
And of course in 69-- PIGPEN is front and center on most every tune in some way shape or form.
Kinda fun to have Casey Jones clock in at under 5 minutes and Black Peter go for 14 minutes.
Also nice to hear Jerry sing, "One more day I find myself alive" and no crowd drama.
Me and My Uncle- Weir has the voice. Yes, Jerry plays up a storm but Bobby had the voice.
Midnight Hour-This is such a different version then the one that Bobby broke out years later.
"Things do begin to get right"
Pigpen gives this song such a swagger.
Although Bobby's version years later was a very nice dance tune. If given the chance Pigpen would sing the lyrics to this tune without coming up for air. The backing vocals on this particular song have too much of a beach boys feel everybody hush and let PIG sing it.
Nice Cumberland but then again when is Cumberland Blues not a smoking tune. The laid back vocals against the quicker pace of the music give this song that Workingman's Dead feel.
So now it is time for the complete version of the Other One. They brought this back in 85 perhaps using it to wrap around drumz like in this version might have given it a longer breakout run.
Anyhow they sure pick up the pace with the Other One sending the show into overdrive.

Thank you
Thank you for not chopping up Good Lovin'! And even more thanks for not hacking up The Other One. But...
A 25-second track called Alligator? I realize there's much missing from the beginning of it, but I would just put it with the drums following it and call it Alligator. I would put 'The Eleven' and 'Jam' together and call it 'The Eleven', then put 'Feedback' as part of either Alligator or WBYG.
I plead guilty to looking a gift horse in the mouth.
