Subject:
PHIL- the Bermuda Triangle?
This is one of my all time favorite shows!
I am NOT really going out on a limb by saying that
yet it needs to be said just the same.
As for this recording if you love to hear crisp vocals this recording really highlights the bands singing abilities.
and the jams ain't shabby either!
Tune selection is seriously unpredictible and features SHIP and U.S. BLUES being fully integrated into the
setlist.
While LET IT ROCK does not compare to any JGB extended jam versions it is way cool to hear it.
They certainly have fun testing it out!
Tune placement-
1st set-Ramble on Rose opener, BTW-second tune in//
Half Step coming out of that crazy equipment /bermuda triangle--"Weird enough for You".
That lone LET IT ROCK sandwiched between JACK STRAW and CUMBERLAND////
Even El Paso has Bob making odd commentary
Lay Me Down (Truly humbling), ----WRS>China Doll
I am a big fan of the complete WRS and the LAY ME DOWN just sets up the tune perfectly notice Phil gives a rare Thank You after TLMD.
(And how often did they put a China Doll tacked on to close Set One)
Set 1.5--ONLY NEGATIVE -Sea Stones-file under/// origins of the bathroom break// probably results in shorter 2nd set by two or three tunes-
2nd set-Wow! Just an amazing set. So many obvious highlights but don't miss these tune selections to open:
Ship of Fools, Big River, Black Peter, Around & Around,
--Dark Star jam>Spanish Jam>U.S. Blues =35 minutes.
It is the above transition from Spanish jam to U.S. Blues and that jam> Ship of Fools that ultimately are the HIGH points of this concert.
This gig played in a Jai-Alai court which to me has to be considered a factor in the uniqueness of this show.
Suffice it to say this is the WITHOUT A NET of 1974
In the heat of the day down in Mobile Alabama
Working on the railroad with the steel driving hammer
I gotta get some money to buy some brand new shoes
Tryin' to find somebody to take away these blues
"She don't love me" hear them singing in the sun
Payday's coming and my work is all done
Well, in the evening when the sun is sinking low
All day I been waiting for the whistle to blow
Sitting in a tee pee built right on the tracks
Rolling them bones until the foreman comes back
Pick up you belongings boys and scatter about
We've got an off-schedule train comin' two miles out
Everybody's scrambling, running around
Picking up their money, tearing the tee pee down
Foreman wants to panic, 'bout to go insane
Trying to get the workers out the way of the train
Engineer blows the whistle loud and long
Can't stop the train, have to let it roll on
