Notes:
Bob was patched out of Rob Bertrando. 18th Row FOB
Tape was paused between most songs in first set. No music is missing in first set. No crossfades were applied.
Tape flip at the end of "Eyes" into "Drums"
Tape flip at the very end of "Franklin's Tower" before the short "Space" that leads into "China Doll".
No SBD or other source is available for a patch at this time. It is minor, but hopefully a fix surfaces one day.The "Franklin's > Space > China Doll" is stellar.

That said, this is a damn fine audience pull. The sound quality gets consistently better. Early in the first set the sound is not as strong as in the later parts when is Phil laying waste to entire blocks of Inglewood. Be like the band. Be patient and let the show envelop you feel the sensation of the audience not giving up for the band, but expressing genuine please in the song selection and the moment they realize what they're hearing or about to hear, but also take note of the fact that many are likely hearing Terrapin, Sampson, and Estimated for the first time. I actually appreciate that the taper is not trying to shush everyone who tosses out a comment here or there. For the sound to be this clear, yet to feel so intimate with the audience as well is a real achievement. 'Cause, ya know, when the dude a few rows away yells out for Unbroken Chain, I'm like, right on, man, I'd take an Unbroken Chain right about now, too. Of course it doesn't happen, but what does happen is both hot and loose, but also patient and sensitive. Late spring '77 is a golden time for the Dead, from the north east shows to the Winterland run, so much good happening that a stop in L.A. is almost like a pit stop along the way. Judging by this recording it certainly wasn't a pit stop for the band.
The first set rocks hard with a lot of energy. I mean, Brown Eyed Women and Jack Straw in one set, don't mind if I do. You can hear the appreciation of the crowd as they not, whoop whoop, but seem to collectively mutter "Oh, this is special," when they realize it's Friend of the Devil. This submission lists a track as "Space", but I don't think that was even a thing in 1977, was it? To me, that's just Franklin's jammin' out.
The patient, open-eared transitions that don't simply run one song into the other, or stomp another out, but really take time to blend the nuances that make the transition possible are a treat. There are a few tape cuts. Not too bad. I could have used a bit more of the drum duel, for example, but there's nothing too jarring like a mid-phrase jump.
It's a real gem, if ya ask me, which maybe you didn't.
