great show
as others note, i think jers guitar is not mixed right and it sounds like its clipping sometimes but not a big deal, just sounds extra distorted sometimes. tape hiss is a non issue - it was recorded in tape in 1977...band sounds great and it just sounds like youre listening to a tape.
anyways this show is pretty great. not my fav all around of the tour or year but not bad. bobby blows the kyrics on truckin but its just good ol grateful dead and they truck thru it fine. i will say this is my favorite fire up to this point in 1977. wow this one fucking rocks.

That heavy Wolf!
I don't know if the guitar is a little too high and hot in the mix, or if Jerry tramped on the 'blistering fuzz' pedal and left it there, but he sports a searing tone through most of this show - and it sounds great! It's particularly obvious on Sugaree, and it rings out in the mellow soloing in He's Gone... too bad we can't check it against any audience sources, but none of this chunk of tour seems to have turned up.

Excellent Show - AAA Prime
DIG the estimated>fire and how lovely they both languish in their respective jams. the fire seems a notch slower, which i think is much nicer than some of the coked up versions that can't seem to wait for the drum break.

Harpsichord
Lazy Lightning, around :44 you can hear Keith's piano recalling Constanten. These sounds are sprinkled throughout the concert.
Garcia is clearly "on," with some very creative phrasing in numerous tunes. Try Supplication.
The sound clarity on this is superb. Best of the bunch for 10-9-77. Thanks for sharing this.

I love this Fire...LOVE IT!
...not just Fire. I come back to this a lot and hear it better every time. Whoever said this is an average performance, I'd like to know what they're comparing it to!
Sorry, I'm not done yet...Let's put this into perspective! The Grateful Dead were always humble dudes but honestly, who else came close to creating anything close to what these guys did? You???

Better than Average
This show has to be better than average, don't you think? Perhaps 4 1/2 stars rounded up to 5. As the below reviewer mentions Jerry is back with Wolf and I also like his fat sound in these fall shows. Jerry really catches fire on many solos such as Sugaree, Supplication, TMNS and Fire. Too bad Road Trips 1.2 didn't package this show with 10-11-77 instead of the hodgepodge of songs from this tour. There's plenty here to get excited about if you haven't heard this show yet and a Charlie Miller source that's much better than the old board.

Wolf
Nice fat wolf sound with double humbuckers, first tour since '74 when jerry used the wolf, which i say sounds much better than anything from the spring of '77, Jerry just rips up and down that wolf fret board with complete ease, in turn making some sick jams which can be found trough out the show

Bobby is absolutely locked in on this Fire... Jerry's final solo is melodic as always with a nice hard edge... an "average" show perhaps, as many have noted, but one where you get the feeling that the boyz really liked it...
