My very first impression through the first minute of Jack Straw and this upload is that it runs slow (to my ears anyway). If this is really the actual speed of the performance... yikes! It’s moribund. Whether it is or it isn’t naturally lethargic, I added 5 ½ percent more speed to liven it up. It now sounds much better, being peppy and energetic. Also added a good dose of reverb in Sound Forge for the sterile board and the up-front vocals. I really like c-freedom's description - "...a very laid back 1st set with no particular hurry to arrive at any certain destination." That's funny, and just exactly perfect.
Jerry struggled with singing throughout the year. Thankfully, he did a good job tonight, which was a big help in recommending the evening. Greatly appreciate the work to get the matrix done and up.
The first set is average great. Enjoyed having TLEO, Stagger Lee, Row Jimmy, and Jack-A-Roe from Jer in the same set. But I hade to laugh again at Bobby’s Minglewood. I reviewed the 9/4 MSG show years ago and remarked at the horrible version Bob sang. After hearing this, it’s not surprising his lack of conviction with that Minglewood 48 hours later at The Garden. “Bobby doing his best impression of Pat Boone...” is exactly how I heard it again tonight. “...As soul-less and whitebread as you can get. I can just picture him snapping his fingers and swiveling his hips. It’s sad. Pig would have been embarrassed. Ain't stealin' any women from their men 2nite.” Only tonight, it might be a little worse. I’m betting it’s the worse version he ever did. Hey, nobody’s perfect. Xoxo.
I decided to start the second set with Terrapin. For me, the transition into Let It Grow was the curiosity of the evening. And it’s very good being so smooth, you’d think they were meant to flow that way; sort of like M&MU > Mexicali, Scarlet > Fire, or Estimated > Eyes... with an impressive Grow Jam to boot! Drumz was cut completely along with a lot of Space on each end to make a very respectable
52:05 minutes of Terrapin > Let It Grow > Jam > Space > Stella > Truckin’ > My Own Fault > U.S. Blues to make a very collectible partial set.
If you listen closely, Hunter does a masterful job synching and fading Rolfe's AUD in and out of at least three bad SBD cuts so that you barely notice the otherwise major blemishes. Nice job Mr.Seamons. With all the problems noted and not noted here, this is a solid above average show with the matrix bumping it up half a star to four.
