nice show
by October 79 Brent Mydland had been in the band five months & he gelled so well w the others and it was a welcome chamge as Keith Godchaux’s playing jad declined a bit since his peak years (imo 71-77-not a bad run for KG) Love these Drums from early Mydland era and prefer 2 drummers tho Billy can more than hold it down on his own. Not ce soumd quality on this sbd

stella !!!!
one of the GOOD Stella Blues with the BIG outro jam that were increasingly rare after the departure of Keith. Im not supporting Keith here it just happened that the playing on the outro jam was usually shorter after late 78,early 79 until in the later years stella timed out at 7 to 9 minutes with short or no outro 'jam.'
Im not a keith basher either for the most part. He was GREAT from71 thru 74.74 using a wide variety of sounds, timbres. His last Good tour being spring 77 when he still used the moog 3(?) for estimated, passenger, occasionally on Loser(cornell77), Brokedown, st paul 77, Misszippi(boston 77). After the summer of 77 no DEAD tour, mickey rolled his porshe Keith's playing began to decline still used the moog for estimated at englishtown but he eventually began to rely increasingly then soley on the electric piano with clanky sound, tibre issues and his playing style changed to increasingly percussive accompanyment with occasional flourishes. By the Nov 78 tour he contributed little and was increasingly a negative distraction. But in his day he was great

Villainous!!
Great great show - but I was completely taken by surprise at the abrupt cut in the middle of Good Lovin'. Pretty much brought a tear to my eye - so be warned. Otherwise - fantastic show.

Hitchin' to New Haven
My brother's and my ride did not show up, so we had to hitch a ride from Old Lyme,CT to New Haven. While standing on the onramp to 95,the then governor of CT,Ella Grasso, drove by in her limo.We thumbed anyway and of course she just went on by.My brother yelled"fuck you" and flipped the governor off!!!We ended up taking a taxi to the show;but as any true deadhead would say,it was WELL worth it.PEACE& LOVE

Grate!!
I remember trying to dowload a copy of this when all I had was dial up service. The Shakedown, Fotd, Estimated and Stella BLue are awesome. It is quite unfortunate that a first set soundboard does not exist. I have always thought that this set is better then the Cape gigs. I guess those two dates had a distinct ambiance that you had to be there to appreciate. Peace folks
