Subject: Better Source than SBD & Road Trips imo
Subject: Better Source than SBD & Road Trips imo
It’s not a mystery exactly, but why SBD recordings fell off a cliff after 1978 and didnt really fully recover until 1987… let’s just call it unfortunate. And nowhere is it more frustrating than fall 1979. Even the Road Trips of fall 79 can’t overcome the thin tin sound.
Which is why, even if this isn’t an A++* Bertrando AUD, it is still a priceless gem. A very strong AUD next to any and it does what none of the other sources do.. it brings the Dancin> Franklins to bubblingly full life. So a huge thanks to Jeff Stevenson and whoever upped this if not Jeff himself.
If you don’t already know this show. At least from the couple tracks of Road Trips 1, now is the time. This is a super smoker. Just loaded with kick ass GD. This is Def one you can start from the beginning and listen strait through, riveted. Make sure you stop off for Dancin Franklins, He’s Gone and Wharf Rat though. Must hears.
Oh man, just got goosebumps from a few seconds late in Franklins when Brent’s organ emerges out of the darkness and is suddenly shining. And from there to the end it’s as good as it gets for Franklins. And without question, the SBDs of this do not capture that moment.. even a little bit. It’s totally lost to us without this AUD.
