Show #10 of the 25-show series and among the best 9 or 10. There are some best-of-series songs and a third set that is average '80, but overall this is a keeper from this wonderfully consistent set of shows.
First Set. The Iko Iko is a crazy-good acoustic Iko and the best of the 3 from the series. Dark Hollow is also aces and you're probably already familiar. This also may be the best example of Rosalie. The next couple are typical of the series but you can hear source print-through on the SBD of To Lay Me Down. Heaven Help the Fool is like the rest and the SBD is wobbly for Deep Elem (or go to the ellner.koucky). Ripple is the flub song of the set
Second Set. Starts average and sparks at Minglewood ("girls round here"), where Jer gets snarly. The solo for Loser is great and the rest of the set just shines. Me & My Uncle rips and Jer takes an extra measure for Big River. The last solo for Althea is incredible. Jer's slide is the glue for the Little Red Rooster and it's a perfect - if atypical - Dough Knees. Though not very exploratory, Let it Grow is uptempo and tight; and check Phil. Deal is astonishing - one of the year's best.
Third Set. Shakedown is the best of the two in the 25 shows, but not of the year. Estimated is ONE of the best two (of the 10). He's Gone is well-played but lightweight and draggy. Mickey stays out for most of Space. Coming out, the set peters until Miracle builds a head o'steam. Alabama is speedy (even after pitch correction), which it often needed; Jer finishes strong, Brent does the '80 keyboard switch in his solo.
1st Set: B+
2nd Set: A
3rd Set: C+
Overall = 4¼ stars
Highlights:
Iko Iko - must-hear acoustic version
Dark Hollow - the classic
Rosalie McFall - a best-of
Me and My Uncle - rips
Little Red Rooster - Jer's slide is a glue huffer
Don't Ease Me In - perfect if not typical
Let it Grow - uptempo and tight
Deal - astonishing capper
Estimated Prophet - Bobby's turn
I Need a Miracle - head o'steam
SOURCES: You have to piece this one together. There are AUDs and partial Owsley SBDs. The stanley.blackwood-waddell is the best SBD for CR&S, Minglewood, Estimated and Stella. The cousinit.24664 SBD is best for the 1st set, but runs 1% fast except for the last two. By the 3rd set it's muddy, muffled and pitched slow. The Bob Menke AUD (vernon.14046) is 1% slow for most of it and has a back-of-hall sound. The ellner.koucky.89189 is the best source for most of the show (from Loser on) because the SBD is too muddy, however it's fast and needs -1% pitch correction until Alabama, which is Mickey Mouse and needs -4%. Dark Hollow is on Reckoning and Iko is on it's bonus disc. Shakedown is on the bonus for Dead Set.

Jerry is out of control, raging on the ragged edge of chaos as though surfing an avalanche !
5 stars there alone.
